Will online poker die eventually? Some people argue yes because the losing players will eventually give up. My opinion is no - this is my reasoning. Online poker is just a progression of a game / game varient that has been around for centuries. People have gathered and gambled on cards pretty much since we were able to make them. Internet just brings it to the masses. And what about the developing world who do not even have access yet - they have not even had the opportunity to play. Thnk about sports betting. It has also been around for centuries (in some form or other) - and with the invenetion of the internet it has just made it easier to do. Will the losers give up? I dont think they do as the general rule. Internet sports betting will not die. Why would poker?

I don't see it ever dieing. I see it evolving. People will always play poker, and the internet makes so much sense. I forsee virtual poker tournaments. You pop on your VR glasses, and your inside a virtual casino. You can look around at other people from around the world playing. You can pick up your cards like your at a real casino. You'll be able to pick up on tells by their virtual body actions. Ok I'm not a psychic, but that would be very cool. Don't you think? PKR has already started that process with their 3D poker rooms.

re: Will online poker die eventually? People will be playing poker online for a long time to come. Google searches for Pokerstars and FT are still on an upswing from 2004. I do see Internet Poker becoming less profitable though. Deposit limits, difficulty of depositing, uncertain legal status (US), tracking software, etc... make it difficult for the really bad players to stick around.

I don't believe that Online poker will perish anytime soon... I just think that certain players will stop playing cause they don't have what it takes to be a winner at the tables. But People like me don't always have a chance to run out to the casino. Poker keeps us young....We get onlder cause we stop playing-{Doyle Brunson} said it best. Good luck at the tables everyone.

Internet poker has already had one major scandal with the Absolute/UB superuser account. All it would take would be another major scandal and online poker could be seriously hurt. Especially if the scandal happened at PS or FT. Ultimately, online poker will never go away. Because as you mentioned people have gambled on cards for as long as they have made them. But whether it remains as popular as it has the past 5 years...only time will tell. |

Poker and online poker are so successful right now that I do not see online poker dying. There will be more and more sites to play poker on as years go by. There will be more people who will play just online instead of live. As for the game, hold em could change over the years. Didnt stud use to be the main game back in the day?
