Internet poker is not illegal in the United States. What is illegal is for banks in the U.S. to conduct business with gaming sites. If you really want the low down on why what happened, happened here is a good explanation of the corruptness and crapola involved.

It is legal for players in most states. It is currently illegal for "gambling" companies to transfer money through financial institutions.

Her name was Brandy Hawbaker. She was a poker groupie/player who got involved with, and screwed over, a number of poker players. She had some serious issues and wound up killing herself.

It doesn't say they don't have jurisdiction, rather it's them finally admitting what many of us (non-lawyers, even) have been saying all along: that The Wire Act they always quote when referring to online poker does not actually apply to online poker, only sportsbetting.

I assume it had a lot to do with taxes and the United Staes Goverment. Our Goverment should just run a site for us US players. Its a win win because you know we would all get a piece of the action!
But reading this forum it seems like it isnt a tax issue its passing money through banks here.
But in reality if the goverment doesnt get action WE dont get action...This is what i belive it boils down too.

I found it interesting DOJ made a decision on online gaming in September, but didn't release it until December. I wonder who benefited by their delay?

These sites are crooked! Does no one care that your money never existed, it went straight to there pockets. It's the same thing as if you put money in your bank account and went to withdraw it and they don't have it. They used 3rd party poker systems that they will not tell you who is handling your personal information. They require no deposit information but you have to go through hell to get a withdrawal. They are all shady and I recommend waiting on a US based site.

If the government isn't collecting taxes on something, it becomes illegal, even if you were to sell home made cookies but didn't claim the income from them it would be a crime, therefore illegal.
The governments are nothing but organised crime IMO, You steal something from the MOB or any other organised crime unit you get your fingers broken or even worse, you steal something and get caught by the police,you get fined or go to jail.
The government is just more humane when dealing out punishment.

because i think ftp ub and pokerstars somehow was money laundering and more there's still poker sites up and running if the us wanted to take down poker within the usa i think they would take all poker sites down not just the top three

Too many people have their hands out wanting the money made from online poker,so nobody agrees,so its still up in the air.so the DoJ figured out a way to get their hands on some of the money.So we wait until something else happns.Its like everything else we do,Total Control and a total shame,Russia has more freedom than Americans.
