Why is it I get such garbage hands when I'm in a desperate situation.

Late in a tourney when the blinds are huge, and I'm in the Red zone, I get such ****ing garbage hand after garbage hand? I'll get the hand 6 2 like 4 hands in a row. Finally I get king 5 suited and push all in, and of course the next player has ace king. Why do I always get such trash late in the tourney when I need playable hands??? Often my first hands in the tourney are fairly good, ace king, ace queen, pocket pairs.

I hate to sound like someone you've heard over and over again, but it sounds like u rely on ur cards too much. The more I poker I play the more I realize it is a people game. Tournaments are really tough depending on the number of people and time of blind raises. My own personel tactic is catagorize players as soon as possible. Of course I play more strait foward when blinds are low, but im also more than willing to go broke(or double up). If u can somehow maximize ur profits early in a tourney, then u can be more of a contendor in the later rounds(either go broke, or get a descent chip stack). Also try seeing more flops with a short stack and less all in pre-flop jams. That may allow u to outplay and steal the pot from ur opponent.

You get garbage all the time because the rest of us also get garbage all the time. Except for those "others" who get the good hands...

I used to not get the 'don't let yourself get that low' advice about tourney play. To me it was like answering how do you win a tournament with you get all the chips (duh). But finally it sunk in that cards are only part of the game. I'm guessing it's pretty rare to be in a game with no situational opportunities *and* no cards. If you get both, you're golden but getting just the opportunities without the cards doesn't have to be an automatic death sentence.


Play the player(s) like mentioned up thread, be choosy about where you put your chips so you give yourself a chance to still be in the game when your opportunities do come along. And they almost always do come along, if you're actively looking for them. Also, the rest of us? We really are getting lots of garbage too. At least, I am :-)

Its all about timing, sometimes you gotta push with crap to take the pot, sometimes with a good hand too.

Timing! and luck, and position, dont always need cards.
