Why Don't The Donks Go To Cash Games So Much? Why is it that sit n gos and tournaments seem to attract so much more donks than cash games? The general level of play in online cash games seems very tight at 50NL and above, with most players at the tables being fairly competent. I just wonder why don't the terrible players in sit n gos and tournaments play cash games. Its a pity they don't. The cash games are still beatable obviously but I find sit n gos more profitable.

Donks = Gamblers Think of their mindset... if they take 1st they quadruple their buy-in They are also the ones who will buy into a large MTT in hopes of winning +$25k. Much like the tree logger in 2009 WSOP... huge donk IMO but, ran like god and was more lucky than skilled

re: Why Don't The Donks Go To Cash Games So Much? poker I agree with the above posts. Cash games are usually a grind, and donks just want to win as much as possible as quick as possible, which is why you see so many in MTT.

Yeah, while MTT's can be really frustrating, because the rising blinds make it difficult to use your skill to take the fishes money, they're also really soft. Hell, what do you think a satellite does? It takes 10 fish, pools their resources, and funnels one of them up to higher stakes. If only cash games had a way to get really bad players at low stakes up to a high stakes game!

Donks i know from experience that there are a lot of donks on cash games, especially on Full Tilt, i think the donks play in cash games because it doesn't take as long as a tournament, you can have breaks when you like, and if you're a lucky donk, like most of them are, then you can win a lot of money, i also think they do not play in tournaments because the luck factor is taken away, if you go in a deep stack then there isn't much of a chance that you are going to get you stack in with an average hand. adsthepro

According to the guy who flopped top set when I was open-ended with a 2nd nut FD, I'm a donk for calling when my pot-odds were good. And a donk for hitting. And the reason I don't play cash games is because I'm far too lazy to excersize BRM for a cash game at a stake I'd be interested in playing - (200 NL, as I'm used to playing live) - as the 200 NL is much harder than a live game online - which is what I have access to. And I don't want to go broke. So I can have a BR of $50 and play $1 SnGs or $100 and play $1 MTTs all day and all night and still play online poker - which is what I want to do - but if I put that same $100 in and play 2NL . . . I'll be bored out of my mind even if I have an excellent win rate of 15BB/100 (or $.30 every 100 hands - woooo) And would rather enter tournaments to win buy-ins at a larger scale. So there you go - luck has nothing to do with it - just a desire to excercise proper BRM so they don't go broke and playing within their limits. WG

There are plenty of fish at the cash tables, I se em everyday. Aside from that, the are a couple reasons you see so many in MTTs and SnGs over ring games: The biggest one, I believe(and it was already stated), is the risk-reward ratio....Take the Daily Dollar for example, it will cost someone $1 to possibly win like $1600. You will never find that in a $.01/.02 game buying in for that same $1. Another big reason is that once that initial buyin for the MTT or SnG is paid, that is all that's coming out of their pocket(unless it's a rebuy tourney). So it's not like a ring game in that they can lose more than that initial $1(from last example). Granted, the person can just go ahead and join another tourney when they bust out, but with MTT's they aren't AS frequent.
