Why do play poker?

I constantly keep thinking to myself, what it takes to succesed in life, What does it really take? Is it a good plan, education, money, personality, ambition, determination (the will to never give up regardless of how bleek the times may get), power, fame, so really what is it all about?

I can't speak for u all, but I could speak for myself, I think the key to life is wealth, because it's funny is'nt, wealth puts u in a commanding postion, there-fore letting u have power by having ppl run your companies, which then leads u to accumalating more wealth which puts u in a higer/wealthier domain, which leads u to becoming friends with more powerful ppl, your family memebers are all happy, no-body can tell u nada, and u can tell everybody, everything u choose, when u choose! Now some of u might be thinking well even with all your wealth without education, ppl can still outsmart u/con u out of your wealth, but here's the thing, for a person to become rich means that person had to have some sort of talent to making money in the first place, and a good plan, correct? Motivation, determination, and ambition all go hand in hand when it comes to making money correct? There-fore meaning your an all around person correct? Many ppl have told me that life is'nt about money but the precious times spent with your "Loved" ones, and the "Little" things in life. Really? Would'nt we all be better of if we all were more wealthier, more wealth means more times spent with your "Loved" ones, and less time stressing over little things, which leads me to my main purpose for this whole thread, in online poker I've come across many ppl stating they only play poker for "FUN" Wtf kind of horse-shit is that, is it really "FUN" we u lose all your money? Is it really "FUN" When u have to go back to your bank account to feed your poker needs once again, and then lose all your money? I don't think that's funny at all, not one bit. When I play, yes I take it very serious, yet for some reason or another my seriousness at the tables die down when I'm up, and then they start up again when I'm broke , I know it's very confusing, why I do what I do, when I'm and up and when I'm broke is mind twisting, but I'm telling u all I don't play poker to get a fix, I personally play to make alot of money one time, and relax, maybe a cool Sunday Mill would help make me relax , but I really doubt since my hungar for wealth and power are in the ranges of the 100mill and up mark, will I make it I highly doubt, but poker is a start for now......

Why do u play? and if it is for "FUN", can u just plz explain what u exactly mean by it! Ty all

I have to say that I play for fun.

What I mean by that is that, on all the web sites that I have played or am playing, I am no longer playing with money I invested. If I found myself in a situation where I blow my bankroll from time to time, I wouldn't be playing. I refuse to pay for the privelege of playing poker.

I don't win much and those winnings aren't used to feed me or pay my bills. Occasionally I will cash some money out and use it as mad money when my wife and I go on vacation.

I like the challenge and the variety that the game offers. I also like it because I can sit down and play for a few minutes or hours, depending on how I feel.

Besides, it beats the heck out of playing Pogo!!!

P.S.

I probably should have included this in the original thread.

There's an old saying that goes "Money may not be the most important thing in life but it's way ahead of whatever is in second place". I find that saying to be true if all you have is $10 to your name. Beyond a certain point, that's no longer true.

I'm guessing that you don't know many people who've accumulated wealth on their own. I do, and a few of them are related to my ex-wife.

It's not like they press to make more, and more, and more money and suddenly realize one day that they finally have enough. They don't know how to stop. The pursuit of money consumes their lives. They just continue to build wealth and deal with their guilt by buying new cars for the kids, a Cadillac Escalade and expensive jewelry for mom, summer homes, etc.

You're not alone in the way you feel. Many of us have had those thoughts at one time or another. You need to figure out what's right for you.

why do play poker

When fun is created, that time I hold it very seriously, until now due to some causes or my additional attention at the table die down-when I am awake and then they set up again when I'm penniless, it really very frustating

If i were to be completely honest i would say i play because i love money. I mean if the grand prize for the WSOP was a years supply of anything, i wouldn't expect thousands upon thousands of people playing and watching. don't get me wrong there will always be the people who play for the game it self, but my primary motivation is a way to make money. also you cant beat the good times you can have with your friends at a home game.

I started because I saw the World Poker Tour and no limit holdem looked fun. Started playing with play chips, then moved on to real money. Lost a couple of thousand, now just trying to get back what I lost.

I use to be a chess player. I love strategy and patience. I use to play online but the excitment was not there anymore. So on moved on to poker where i use the same skills but the adrenaline kicks in more because of the uncontrolable factors compared to chess where u plan a few steps ahead and you usually know whats coming.

Why I play poker?
Because:
1. its fun to play
2. its better as to go in bars and drink
3. its nice to earn some money
4. very often you have a nice adrenalinkick
5. its better to play, then spend your time for nonsens

I think, for me thats enough points why I like to play poker

Have a good time,

i play poker not just cause you can make money off of it ( though that certainly helps ) but for pure love of the skill it takes to be good and trying to get there. i love the strategy involved and trying to read people. its not just no limit hold em either, i love to play omaha and stud more actually. all the money is in nl though, horse is the best game by far. you can really tell the good one by the horse tournies, gotta be well rounded for those.
