Why do my opponents get dealt high pairs so often?

It's like the average opponents gets a high pair once every 15 or 20 hands. Meanwhile, I usually get a pair of aces kings queens or jacks about once every 500 hands.

No offence, but could it be selective recall?

I get dealt AA once in every 10,127,133.97 hands, whereas my opponents get it dealt twice every one hand.

it's because online poker is really just an elaborate scheme built for the poker community to take money away from you and distribute it evenly amongst ourselves

Remember too that, at the end of the day, high pairs are just a single pair. Pocket aces, kings and queens get cracked all the time - you can win with other hands.

re: Why do my opponents get dealt high pairs so often?

Your opponents will be getting higher pocket pairs more simply because there are 8 of them and one of you.

I played in a home game with my friends today, one guy got kings twice, another got fours, and another got 5's. The 5's turned into quads, one of the kigns flopped sets, the other lost a big pot (I got trip tens )

I got two pocket pairs, and they weren't till heads up. First fives, which I used to take down a small pot on the flop (no set), then I got deuces, which flopped a set, turned a ful house, and rivered into quads for the win.

So while I got two pocket pairs, I saw a total of like 10 throughout the night.

LOL I like how you say "fours" but say "5's" instead of "fives."

The odds of being dealt a pair is 220:1. That is for EACH pair, so you should get AA, KK, QQ, or JJ once every 55 hands ON AVERAGE. With 8 opponents, one will get a similar pair once every 7 hands ON AVERAGE.

I went over 4,000 hands once without being dealt pocket aces. (4,019 to be exact)

Over the last 3 days I was dealt 90 pocket pairs. The odds say that I should flop a set once every 8 times. I've had exactly 1 flopped set out of those 90 hands. On that hand I won the blinds only.

The last 3 times I had pocket aces, the only other person to call my preflop raise hit a set and I got destacked. All three times.

Tonight I've gone 145 hands so far without hitting anything better than middle pair except once. That one hand I hit TPTK and the fellow called me down with middle pair and it hit again on the river. I won a total of 7 hands, always just the blinds. Twice preflop, once on the flop with a cbet with nothing, and twice when I hit a 2 on the flop and it got checked down when I was in the BB.

I'm 4 for 39 in races (all in preflop, always in SNG's when the situation was appropriate.)

Think about that and then try to complain about running bad and not getting your fair share of high pocket pairs.

Because you touch yourself at night

Unless your playing heads up or referring to one opponent specifically I believe its because everyone else is cheating:P or just because there are more of them so if your playing lets say 5 other people at a 6 max table they will get a high pocket pair roughly 5 times as often as you I believe.

re: Why do my opponents get dealt high pairs so often?

Now that you mention it, three nights ago when I got AA three times in my first 8 hands of the night, I think I was at your table.

Then again, I never got called to a showdown, so how did you know?

Pocket Aces aren't all that great...

You know, I'm not so sure I even like pocket Aces. My Aces get cracked more than any other pocket pair. At least Aces hurt the most. Got so many new players online goin all in on any face card that a high pocket pair just isn't what it's made out to be. My experience has been to bet high but don't go all in till the flop, unless you got like a 3 to 1 chip lead at your table, or your on the edge of elimination!

Sometimes I wish I hadn't gotten PokerTracker, then I could at least claim it's just my perception.

Effexor, are you sure you actually saw the flop with all 90 of those pocket pairs? Because I perpetually run below the mean at hitting sets, but 1 for 90 is something else, even for me

My niece, at the age of five, complained about how "everyone else has birthdays more often" than she did.

in the long run you'll be dealt those pairs as many times as everyone else, unless you just got some kind of online voodoo curse in which case youre doomed

Good point, so I went through and looked again. 9 times I did fold them preflop, and one time I had 55 in the BB and it was folded to me so I won the SB. So of the PP's that I saw the flop with, I was 1 for 80.

I am glad that I went though these, I think I'm overplaying overpairs pretty badly.
