i just think people confuse trying to make a move and making a dumb call.
I've tried to make many moves with garbage, got called and then hit, which promptly started the name calling. I think its when people make the CALL with the garbage. that being said, i'm sure i have too |

I agree witht the original poster. Everyone has a bit of donk in him. It is almost a requirement to win at this game. You must change up your game from time to time, just to keep your opponents guessing. If that requires playing 7-2 offsuit from time to time, so be it.

It's all about perspective.
A FISH is a bad player that you beat. A DONKEY is a bad player that beats you. The name calling is almost always an inferior player trying to show thier superiority. IMHO, what you did wasn't being a donkey. A DONKEY plays that way expecting to win. You played that way expecting to loose. |

i play alot of KO tournies because they are my favorite, there is alot of name calling during these, but i think it is because people are just trying to get the knockout. i find that in freerolls and low buyins, you just can't bet enough to protect your hand someone is always willing to push all in with nothing. as the buyins increase one would expect play to increase but it doesn't, i got knocked out of a $75 game on the bubble with 1010 flop is 1088 fullhouse yay push all in, guy calls with JJ you can guess the turn and river yeah J and J. whos the donk him for calling or me for getting greedy and pushing all in.

well some people know when to fold so they are not donks. some1 who calls a bet on turn with 3 outs and hopes to get lucky on river is a donk. Bluffing a pot doesn't make it a bad play unless u get reraised and call with nothing then your a donk.

I think that a donk is someone who has no chance of winning the hand, and calls for all their chips to end up losing. Not someone who is maybe trying to make a move and win a pot, it is still gambling. It seems in the freerolls all the "normal" type of play is thrown out and people dont have anything to lose so they try for the quick double or whatever, then if they hit something they are called donks but usually are watching shortly after anyway.

I love the players in freerolls or super-low buy-in tourneys that always talk trash and berate the other players, like they are big-time pros that accidentally signed up for the beginners' games. Like someone mentioned earlier, those guys are always trying to make themselves out to be a lot better players than they really are using their words b/c they know their play can't back it up. Any really good player that gets into a game with a truely clueless player isn't going to correct their mistakes for them, but rather sit back and wait until the time is right to take their chips from them.
Good players should consider donks and fish to be a benefit to their bankrolls in the long run. They will get lucky sometimes, but more often than not they will lose their money to those that know what they are doing. That's a good thing--embrace it!!! |

On the face of it, everything is perfect in Benyamine’s world. Poker has brought him money, a doting fiancee and the respect of his peers. But success has not come without a price. Schoenberg compares their relationship to ‘ships passing in the night’ at times: she goes to bed at a time when he’s just ready to start a long night session. Another casualty has been his health and appearance. Hunching for hours on end in front of a computer screen has seen his weight balloon and exacerbated the back problems that forced him to bow out of a promising tennis career. He finds it difficult to even indulge in golf, one of his favourite hobbies. ‘When my back is hurting, I am at home miserable,’ he says. Schoenberg is adamant that a largely sedentary lifestyle is not for her. ‘It’s affecting our lives too much. It wasn’t an issue when he could play golf but it’s gotten worse and worse. It’s really important – he’s got to buckle down and shape up.’"" |
