Stu Ungar because he's freaking awesome.
In the last 5 years or so, it's got to be Joe Hachem. He's really the only one I respect much as a pro. I like Jamie Gold but his style doesn't work as well now that people are used to it. I haven't seen enough of Eastgate's play to figure out how good he is yet. From what I've seen, he's pretty boring to watch though. :P |

Jamie Gold is an idiot!!!
I'm not a fan of Joe Hachem, but you have to admit, he is a pretty solid player!!! I don't think anyone knows much about Peter Eastgate. But in recent years I would say Hachem is way better than Moneymaker, Gold and Raymer. As far as my favorite ME winner, I don't think I really have one. |

By far the best and favorite would have to be Doyle.
Alot of you who do not know much about Eastgate must not watch the European games much, He had been making a name for himself on the European circuit before winning the WSOP '08. As for who I favor the most, it would have to be a toss up between Eastgate and Doyle as they are both excellent players IMO. |

1. Daniel hasn't won the main event, he won player of the year. 2. He has kind of sucked in the last two years, he's just become a calling station. Maybe he does better off camera but from what I've seen he's not doing so hot. |

I'm going to change my mind and go with Farha.
It is a well known fact within the poker community that Farha and Moneymaker played out heads up in their hotel room that night and Farha crushed Moneymaker (as he was supposed to). They agreed that Moneymaker winning with a massive bluff would start a huge boom worldwide and they split the profits. *raises fist to right and glares angrily at fist, a la Stephen Colbert* MONEYMAKER!!! |

re: Who is your favorite world series main event winner poker
I was inspired by the Ungar story that frankly it was owing to my interest in same that I became interested in playing poker. Let's face it this most diminutive man was a legendary giant of giants in so many ways - take his generosity for instance: walking with a friend in the street a guy goes up to stuey and asks him for some money. Stuey without thinking twice took a hundred dollar bill from his back pocket and gave it to the guy. After being thanked, a few moments later his friend asked "who was that?" Stuey drawled, "How do I know, sure if I knew the guy I'd have given him more!" His legendary generosity notwithstanding, when you add up all the ways in which he was special you realise that he was truly one of a kind.
Unique among people: Stuey didn't play the game for money. He played money for the game. Last edited by TracesOfAces : 22nd June 2009 at 9:53 PM. |
