When I started playing poker Back in 2004, I started playing online poker with a poker site called Paradise Poker. Back then USA players were allowed to play. I remember being drawn to this site because of its commercials. Sucked me right in. As I started playing NL Holdem, its been over a month and I wasn't placing in the money at all. Frustrating, started losing my confidence in the game and my play overall. Of course this was referring to multi-table tournaments. Then one night I just decide to enter into a POT Limit High Omaha Tournament. Never really played it before. A few hours later, I was in the money and then took it down. It was such a great feeling and brought my confidence. My psyche of the game changed, and then went back to No Limit Holdem and won't you know, I was making it into the money on several tournaments. Just a reflection back to where I first started and where i am at now with my game.

In a wierd way, Razz did the same thing for my NLHE game. I was really grooving in tourneys and then hit a brick wall and tried a Razz freeroll. Got into the game because it was more about reading what's on the board and since it was limit, building smaller pots. Then when I started up with NLHE again weeks later, I found myslef reading hands better and practicing more pot control. I can't explain why but it helped me see NLHE in a new way.

I learned to play poker back in 1978, i was six and i started to learn watching my dad play with his buddies. My parents saw no harm in playing "penny poker" with the family, so they are partly to blame for my obsession. I started playing more regulary when i joined the Army in 1990. an army buddy of mine put me on online poker in 2003 and that only fueled my fire. Once i started winning several local live tournaments while stationed in louisiana my mom saw fit to send me a custom made coffee cup with a picture of me on it from when i was about 6 or 7 playing 5card draw, wearing a cowboy had sitting behind a can of coors light and cig in the ashtray...i then realized they were not partly responsible for my vices but fully responisble!!! someday when they interview me on espn at the wsop i'll be sitting there with that cup in front of me. Thanks mom.

re: When I started playing poker I started laying poker in my dorm room in 2000. We used pennies as chips because holdem wasnt that big and everyone didnt have poker chips like they do know and i lost 100 dollars that night not knowing what the heck i was doing, but i was hooked from then on out.

I started playng poker on the client of an on-line bookmaker....cause i was a gambler, a sport and horse gambler. Then i knew this great game (texas holdem) and my gambling was always less and my poker always more. I've never more stopped playng on-line poker, and now i play sometimes also live tournaments!!
