Whats stakes do players seem better
Hi, Just wondering what you feel about the different stakes.
1) At what stakes do you think there is a major step up in ability of the play, eg is it between, 10 and 20nl, 20 and 50 nl, 50 and 100nl or even higher? 2) What stakes do you play in order to make regular profit? 3) (if you want to answer) what is your bankroll for this? Thanks Stuventus |

I think it depends a lot on the site. I play mostly at PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker $50NL and the players are no better than they are at $25 or most of the $10 games.
I can head over to a place like costa del poker and play $100NL and its like playing $5 or $10NL on PokerStars. I'm not sure why I play so much at PokerStars, I do just fine but much easier money out there. |

Where i play, i find NL50 about 10x worse than NL20 for some reason. I tend to either buy in for max @ NL 20, or buy in for min at NL 50, and play short stacked-oriented play. And at NL50 i can often find complete IDIOTS calling my post flop shove (granted it isn't that much to call when you only start with a 10$ stack) with crap like middle pair when i have an overpair etc.
If i hit a huge pot in NL50, i top up to the max and start playing "properly", otherwise i'm one of those annoying players that will just leave after hitting a good pot...coz what are you meant to do with 20$ in NL50. |

I find the PokerStars NL$25 to be significantly different than NL$10. It's not that players are that much better on the higher stake, it's just that there are so many extremely tight players, it's more difficult to get a good hand paid off. On the NL$10, the action is much looser, and a TAG style can make money almost on auto-pilot.

I dont now why, but it took me some time to adapt from
10NL to 25 NL...... I think it is because what the poster above me is saying. Its more difficult to get a good hand paid off... Maybe im just stupid but now when I beat NL 25 I think it would be easy to beat any stake up to NL 100 ( it looks to me when I am observing tables that it is almost the same players playing these stakes at pokerstars) My bankroll is 1700 dollar.... |

Its a difference on each level if you ask me
In my opinion you find better players even on the next level, but skill is different than actually winning. The lower limit a table has means more crazy callers you get, so when you are playing low stakes you have to be prepared to lose against even the craziest card, and you can even bid a lot higher than on mid and high stakes. Let say you push all in on a microlimit with AA, its not unusual that a A10 makes a call. But if you do the same on a 1 dollar table the chances are less than 1 percent.
In percent there are also a lot fewer callers on the mid and high tables, they play tighter, that means easier to steal money, but if you got the AA and someone hits a two pair by luck the chances are that he will steal more from you because he reads you right, and suddenly you are down by a buyin. |
