Whats the best (winning) personality to have on a poker table?

Should i constantly talk trash like tony g, or be a polite classy guy like hachem? Should i show emotion when i get a bad beat like hellmuth or act like i couldnt care less like ivey or maybe just say nice hand like some poker player who keeps saying nice hand i guess haha? Do certain personalitys work for image if so does it depend on what image im trying to exploit?

Bonus question or just a seperate question, whats you poker table personality?

Personality can suprisingly srastically change the table image of a player sometimes. I frown about talking trash ot the poker table, especially with these noobs cuzzing and swear and saying any sexually explicit thing they can think of. I feel a aggro and a friendly personality will get ppl to fold a lot of times, especially in the bigger blinds era. I also belive in good karma, and being mean at the table jsut isnt worth working up over. I think Tony G is ok and can profitable because he needles his opponents, but doesnt really trash talk (big difference).

As for the best personality to have at the table, we hardly ever saw it on TV but I think the reputation Chip Reese had as someone who was always friendly, respectful and likeable is something to aspire to. Ideally, you want the other players at the table (especially the fish) to be happy and comfortable so they'll sit there for long periods losing money to you. If you belittle them or put them offside in some way they'll often leave and take their money with them.

^^^^^^^This makes sense to me. WAY too much to keep track of w/o having the character your trying to play on top of that.

These guys you mention are themselves, and thats why it works for them.

And what Oz said as well.... Unless you just really are a total asshole (not making implications here), try to be polite and friendly and let you play do the talking.

My exact thoughts. Don't mimic anyone, be yourself. If you have an edge for doing something not really part of your play or personality, by all means, do it.

I used to talk a lot at poker tables and what i found is it made more players notice me and made them more likely to recognise my play and adjust. I soon figured been quite and unnoticable was the better way to not get my play noticed so much.

Barry Greenstien discusses this in "Ace on the River", I tend to agree with him as to table manners.

Yep - even saw Negreanu (just not able to shut up) give away too much and got an unwanted call on a monster pot. The guy was eally tanked and Negreanu kept talking and gave away a vital piece that the guy had not thought of. The guy lit up and called and you could see Negreanu knew he f-ed up.

Pretty sure Negreanu's personality (along with all the table talk) fares well for him.

When I play live I talk a lot but about other topics then poker.. ima lag and my image gets out there within an hour cuz by that time I usally show something like 3 9 off suit if I win by two pair or get my opponant to fold I show my terrible preflop hand lol. I don't suggests lag unless you have atleat 150 bb more like 200 to be ideal.. just show respect say nice hand no matter if its nice or not

Im normally calm at the table. I dont let nothing really bother me. The only thing I can recommend is to not let stuff get to you and if it does, dont let it be shown. A lot of people feed off of that and try to get you out of your game...

Just don't be like Tony G and Hellmuth! I hate them at the tables!
I prefer Negreanu and Esfandiari style, they are pleasant with the others players and it's good to talk at the table to mess with the others.

Not sure whether you're referring to live poker or online.

Live I tend to smile sweetly when the mouthy person at the table starts giving me unwanted advice, but say nothing. Generally say nothing. If I'm sitting next to friendly people I might exchange a few words with one of them about big hands that happen.

Online generally I say nothing, except when I'm at a friendly table. If someone says "gl all" I will say "ty u2", for example. There are certain specific tournaments that are more friendly than others, and ones with a lot of UK players are much more likely to have conversation that interests me, which usually has no relevance whatsoever to poker.

My main online weakness is that if there is somebody that is constantly doing the same sort of annoying thing, after they have done it a lot of times I will respond.

1) "zzzzzzzz"
I deliberately take longer to make decisions if they are in a hand, or are behind me and haven't folded.

2) Constantly criticising weak play by other players (when they appear to know what they're talking about).
I point out that we're not playing WSOP, it's either a freeroll or microstakes.

3) Constantly insulting weak players and calling them a donk, only if it's a tournament that we have paid to enter.
I point out that donks are what make poker profitable, so I like having them around.

4) People I knock out, who then spend the next five minutes hurling abuse at me, as an observer.
Try to occasionally give a little dig as they are waffling, to intensify the tilt that they are suffering. For example, somebody who slowplayed AA and I played 76s from the button and ended up stacking them, after about 4 minutes of me ignoring their abuse they said "what the hell were you doing playing 67s?" and I simply said "suited ", which then set them off with another deluge of insults...

Probably shouldn't, sometimes can't resist though.

I have played little live so I have too much to pay attention to, to be able to try to simulate a "personality" .

Online I never chat.

I do not play live often, but when I do, I start out anyalyzin analyizing, then after i get confortable, I talk up a storm. A good one tho, usually everyone at the table gets into it, and then they all start playing more hands, limping more getting loose, because I am a kind heareted person and everyone just wants to play a hand with me after a while hahha no joke. I have even goten players to lay down sick hands an show me when Icheck raise them. I hardly show unless the able is tooooo tight then i will so they can see im bluffing call me more :P

But i get my reads 1st, then start yapping away. Win or lose, its usually a good time for everyone. Poker players always have something to say :P

Just be yourself. Relax and do your thing.

Also if somebody is constantly spouting rigtard rubbish I will eventually say that it's not the site that is the problem, the same things happen in live poker too, it just feels as if it happens less often because you play far fewer hands live.

If it online, I tend to just mute everyone with the mute button because what other people say always get me to react to what others commented and then I'll start typing ignorant staff to annoy everyone too. So the best move is to just mute everyone. No distraction is great concentration.
