What Signifies A Weak Bet?
Just curious as to the difference between a weak bet, and a value bet is... considering you don't know the other players cards. What's the difference? Thanks for any answers.

Sometimes it's hard to tell, but one common weak bet is a preflop raiser betting on the flop, but making a smaller bet than his initial raise. It usually means he feels he should put in a continuation bet on the flop, but didn't hit and doesn't want to commit a large number of chips. Watch out more for smaller bets on the river, which are more likely to be value bets.

I guess without any other context to work with, a weak bet is basically a bad bet. Often times it's kind of a desperation bet made by someone that totally missed the flop and is just betting a very little bit in hopes that their opponent totally missed the flop as well and will just fold.
A value bet however is totally different. The idea is to get as much money out of your opponent as you can without scaring them off, but in this case you have what you are pretty sure is the best hand. So now you are betting in hopes of finding an amount he'll call and pay you off on. |

I usually look at the betters previous betting patterns, assuming I got a decent read on the villain already. If his standard play is a 3-bet, and he suddenly makes either a mini raise or a huge overbet, smell a rat. A big overbet from a generally solid player often signifies a bluff/semi-bluff, say 2nd pair with an overcard for example. That's why mixing up your play is important; try not to be predictable
Bottom line, sometimes you just gotta trust yer gut. |

Impossible to tell....a good value bet is disguised as a weak bet, a weak bet is an attempt to disguise a value bet. Basically I strictly play my cards in this predicament because it's a tough decision....something I hate.

The biggest problem I have is that if you see 90% of people betting 3x+ big blind then they have a hand. If they go all in and the pot was big already, then they are most likely bluffing. If they make a 1x or 2x BB bet then it can be a bluff, I'd try re-raising and see what happens.
But if out of no where into a big bet a guy raises all-in and it's like double or triple the pot then it's most likely a bluff. |

That's why i try to switch my bets all the time. Small bets scare me much more then big ones....but big bets of course hurt if you lose. Every now and then I bet big with a monster to make it seem like I'm bluffing, if everybody folds good for me I still win.

Min bets not on the river are usually weak. A lot of times it's a hand that the person just doesn't want to lay down, so they are making a "blocking" bet. This can be AK that missed, or often top pair, no kicker.
A lot of times you will raise these bets, they will call, and then min. bet into you on the turn again!! You have to be careful in these situations, because a lot of these players intend to call you down no matter what, you can't get them to fold their "made" hand (or their "pretty" preflop hand). When someone min bets from early position into a multiway raised flop I just treat it like they checked: call if I was going to check, put in my standard continuation bet if I was going to make one, etc. |
