What is the Point of Uneven Raises?

I've been playing a lot of higher entry fee tournaments lately and have noticed that once you get into the later stages you see more and more players making weird raises such as like 5699 and such. Do people honestly think that by doing that the raise looks much bigger just because more chips are spewed onto the table? Or is there something that I am over looking.

I think its to makes it harder for opponents to figure out the pot odds....but it's probally more for intimidation.

And yes, its intimidation most of the time. Occasionally you'll get the OCD guy who took someone's stack and *has* to have his stack be a multiple of 1000.

Just sucked out to win a big pot with 3s against 6s, was getting really short and its a turbo so i shoved it in. Sitting good now for a while!

I like doing uneven raises because it honestly makes people mistakenly call when they think you're all in. They will often fold to cbets because they called pf weak.

Down to 4 tables now but i'm not getting any cards and have been living off the blinds every circle. Hopefully i pick something up soon.

I've seen a few people do it, seems to be a bunch of reasons behind it. Some are OCD, some do it when they've got a certain kind of hand. And I think some do it to disguise the kind of bet they're making - notice that Tom Dwan does it a lot playing live. Where others will bet $15,000 he'll bet $15,700 or $14,900 or something.

I don't bet odd numbers, but I tend not to bet in exact multiples of the big blind either because it can make it really obvious what you're doing. I've seen players who'll make a raise preflop from late position and from the amount you know they're following the "Raise 3BB plus 1BB for each limper" rule, which tells you something about their play. If you deviate from the exact amounts a little bit, your opponents don't get that extra information. Assuming they're paying attention in the first place.

personally i do it for several reasons , one of them its harder to do the pot odds . secondly, i believe it makes ur bet look weird now ppl get confused as to what it means .. 3rd is that it lets ur opponet know that ur thinking of bet sizes not just pressing the pot slider n betting whatever the computer calculates....

Yeah i should be gone, but in these tournaments to win the thing you need to take that kind of risk, on the button with that i think i needed to make that shove for the blinds.

are you serious??? what could it possible tell you? if you bet the same amount every time it will tell nothing other than you bet. if they know what range of hands you bet with then they know what range you bet with. and you can start to add and remove hands from your range to adjust. if you start to bet different amounts then this often will give off extra info. as poeple tend to either bet more with strong hands or weak ones.

bets of 3,333 don't scare people? And it usually doesn't make people think oh he has pocket threes.

Odds are a tiny bit worse than if he had bet half pot. It doesn't really change much. That's kind of why most people don't do it :P

No that is my own example of an uneven bet, and it's not about odds changing all these numbers make it harder for the person to calculate odds correctly, if they're lazy.

Yeah i think this more than makes up for the 8 coin flips in a row i lost on Sunday. But damn hopefully i can take advantage and win this thing.

The question is why would you bet an even amount? If 3338 is the optimal bet size why round it to 3340 or worse 3300 or even 3000? Why not bet the exact amount you want to bet?
