I mean, I wouldn't expect anyone to be cheating at a play money table, but sometimes I feel like he's just taunting me with 3 JJ in a row. The odds are 1 in over 10 million, for the record.

Wow, 3x in a row HU...I'd put the odds at ~50K though. The first 1/221 doesn't count.

how are you even getting to the showdown in any of these hands?

In a cash game a few years back I received these hands in a row.....1010,jj,qq,kk,aa........I had my account locked up for 3 days after several players at the table filed complaints. If I had been in their shoes I would have screamed too, but this does happen. What made it odd was that they came in ascending numerical order

The better hand is checking everything after flop. Even if James stops betting they probably make showdown.

I've actually been dealt JJ 3 times in a row (won small once, won blinds once, lost it all to a set the last time). Live game, 2 decks, pass the deal. It happens. It's when it never happens that you should worry.

Admittedly this is a a very unlikely scenario. The odds of it happening, however, depend on exactly how you word the situation.

The chance of the "next 3 hands all being pocket JJ" is 1 in 10,793,861. Astronomical!

On the other hand, if you concede that pocket JJ does happen once in a while, the chance of it happening two more times in a row is 1 in 48,841. It's still a big number.

Considering how many hands poker stars deals each day, you can expect the "same pocket pair three times in a row" scenario to happen several times every day. You were just unlucky enough to be on the wrong side of all three.

I think the real problem though is that, IMHO, none of your three hands were good enough to take to showdown. You should never have seen his three-in-a-row pocket JJ.

I hear you. At my local casino live cash game with newly installed alternating deck shufflers I've been getting the same suited hands 2-5 times in a row with the blue and red decks frequently! That's why people with little or no live game experience cannot relate to the fact that these trends are common in card games despite the odds. Whatever I experience online is exactly what I see live. This is more true for me since I've been playing fulltime 40hrs. plus a week.

FT gave me 5-T in a tourney last week 5 times in a row, folded the first 3, but would've won with them each time.

I've gotten AA QQ AA three hand straight once, and I know that i've seen 27 3 times in a row before....of course you only remember the really good and really terrible runs....I'm sure i've had k9 or something 3 times in a row before too.

Scotty Nguyen was up against k8 3 times in a row on a TV show the other day....not with the same person....but 3 times in a row.

Strange things happen when you're playing a lot of hands.

I've gotten KK twice in a row, and then AA the next hand before.

While highly improbable it is not impossible. I witnessed pocket A's dealt to a fellow three times in a row, the sickest part was he got rivered all three times for losses. He was not the happiest of campers, the last guy who rivered him thought he was bluffind on tilt. He even apologized to the guy for sucking him out.:D

I as well would be worried if this kind of things did not happen. There are just so many hands dealt, it should happen.

Likewise it is just as likely that you would get 2d7s, 8s9c and KhAh in the next three hands as that you would get 3x JcJd

Also when someone has been dealt JJ in the last three hands, the probability for it to have happened is 100%... ;)
