What makes the better player in this scenario? Ok, so a little argument broke out over this at a home game of mine the other day. I figured the answer was obvious, but I'd like to see what everyone else here thought about it also. So my friend was talking about a female pro and how she likes her, she's the best yada yada. My other friend brought up another one saying, 'No, so and so is way better because she has cashed more! the player that has the higher percentage of winning games is the better player. She is placing in the top 10% of their game. Let's say, Chris Ferguson has placed in the top 10% of the playing field out of all of his games and tournaments like 41% While Jamie Gold has places in the top 10% 4% of the time.... Like Doyle Brunson has nowhere near as much money as like Phil Hellmuth or Jennifer Harman or Phil Ivey, yet he's better than all three of them combined. My friend defending the first girl goes, 'NO! She has bracelets! Players with the bracelet are CONSIDERED the best for a reason! They got top they get all the glory of the best'. So it was top finish vs cashes. I choose to leave out the names of the pros to avoid people arguing over them too. Haha. But yea, so pretty much I agreed to disagree because they were being such good politicians! I did say a bracelet is a bracelet and they won overALL and got what they deserved, recognition wise. But my friend made SUCH a good point with the cashes. So now I kinda agree with her more? I think all the talk had me swaying from what I think is obvious to most. Winning once in a while? or cashing A LOT. Hmmm, thoughts? I just want to see if this causes any debate like it did at home, it might not though. Last edited by cmberman87 : 22nd August 2008 at 6:26 AM.

Best? Tough to definejust WHO the "Best" players are as most of the pros have their own styles and one isn't 'better' than the other---BUT, there are one night stands who own a braclett. And just because they only have 1 braclett doesn't make them a worse player than say, Helmuth, although I'm sure he'd disagree. Maybe he just hasn't been around long enough yet to win more-----to many variences to say who---but WHAT makes the BEST players, I think, is their STYLE of play------BUT HOW the best player is determined is a whole nother thing! And I think the number of cashes would be a better determining factor! More games won=best player!

re: What makes the better player in this scenario? poker Lots of luck involved in the final stages of a tournament. Even more luck involved in winning one. However, if one player is consistantly finishing higher and in the money more often then I would say they are the better player. Cashes.

I'd saying the player who is consistently cashing more is the better player. For example I'd rather cash in 50 outta 100 tournies than cash in 15-100 tournies and win 1st one time. The only exception would be of course if that one win was the WSOP...........

Some are tournament players, others are cash game players, but i believe best players are able to win big money at cash tables and finish in top ten of big tournaments too even though the tournaments have bigger fields every months.

I just wait until it is all said and done. Poker is a game you can play your whole life and every player wants to win a bracelet and play it for bragging rights. So I would say that a bracelet would make a better player. So what if it was luck or a one time thing for the moment. The game is still young and they might win another. Plus if you place 1st in the WSOP and get a bracelet you win good money.

re: What makes the better player in this scenario? poker Well, I agreed on consistency makes the better player. Like said above there ARE one night stands who have gotten the bracelet and you never see/hear from them again. *cough* not going to say who I want...because people defend the d-bag.
