What happens to your online bankroll if you die? (Hope this isn't a downer, but it's something to think about.) Could your loved ones figure out how to get your online BR? And how about your online buddies? Would your loved ones know how to let the folks at CC, etc. know what happened? Here's a story about that kind of thing from a video gamer's point of view that I think could apply to us: http://tech.yahoo.com/news/ap/200903...death_online_2

That is something to think about. I know I have made some very good friends online over the years, and would like to know what happened to the ones who dis-appeared. Didnt really give any thought to the online BR as it is very small right now, but who knows when that could change. Not really a downer, unless FT gets to keep the $100,000 I win and drop dead from a heart attack right after. Thanks for the thought.

With the thousands and thousands of accounts on the sites, this surely happens with some frequency. Whether death or some other reason, accounts and bankrolls get abandoned. I wonder how long the funds languish in a site before the account is closed and the money is "confiscated." This is a great deal for the sites. Do they make any attempt to contact inactive account holders? Why would they? Free money! I keep a little booklet where my wife can find my sign in info. As for you guys, who the heck is gonna miss me? C Ya. Gary

Nice post and most recently with the loss of a CC member, I totally have taken a look at "What If" and I came up with the hard facts of realizing that only one person in the whole internet world would be able to contact me (which will even be difficult as I'm dead) kcanuck becaise he has picked me up at my house for poker/drunken events...hmm maybe he forgets where the house is now, so that theory might have to be tossed out the door.(for those that don't know I have 5 children, and they are all over the gambling age. My children know of CC as I do talk to them and in all reality they are already connected to the CC family. I have recently been showing my daughter the ins and outs of poker online, she seems to have already mastered the live tables at Rama and Herring in ONTARIO 5/10 nl, which btw I have never played those stakes live myself I ENVY HER!! But when it seriously comes right down to it, no one would prob contact CC and tell them I've died, because I haven't specifically given anyone instructions what to do and where the passwords are. I do have passwords for all sites written down on a piece of paper front and back mangled its with cross outs, beer spilt on it, and the cat has chewed the corners off. It would be like foreign language to them upon reading itOn top of all that IT"S NOW HIDDEN in a book, it may become a MYSTERY I may be technically dead in the future, but atm I'm claiming exclusive rights to the movie now. I have some CC'ers phone numbers programmed in my cell phone, I wonder if my kids will actually be smart enough to just call the numbers I just pray that no matter how I go, please let me have cards in my hand Last edited by aloevera : 15th March 2009 at 9:05 AM.

re: What happens to your online bankroll if you die? poker It really is a problem, I take care of all finances for my home and its all online, I don't even have paper billing for most things anymore. I have tried to interest my husband in it but he refuses, says that I can't die before him. I think after reading this that its time to put it all on a stick and tape it to his forehead. But then again he suffers refridgerator blindness, so he probably wouldnt be able to fine it lol.

A good point really, as we often wonder where members disappear to every so often, especially the more active ones who we have gotten to know and play poker with etc. I wouldnt want to just vanish, but who can tell when something may happen. On a lighter - note luckily my BR has recentley been damaged by real live and so it is very small right now And i also plan on returning from the spirit side and maybe become CC's first resident ghost - making hunting the password thiefs easier lol.

My wife is an accountant,so I have filled out all the appropriate forms (lol) with passwords and directions to retrieve any money I have online in case of my death. She would never leave any money for the poker sites.

we never realized the importance of making sure both of us know how to access everything that we have online until we were put in the predictament. sarah does most of the bill paying online and i never knew the id and password to get into our bank account. she deals with the money so i didnt worry about finding out what the account info was. i also had a little money on pokerstars that she had no idea how to withdraw. i clicked the box to remember my id and password on pokerstars so she didnt have much trouble with that, but as far as letting everyone at CC know what had happened it took a few weeks to remember that i was a member let alone my id and password. at first the only id that i could remember was JDs. i told her to just log in and look for Jack Daniels in dark blue. luckily she's involved in another forum that has kinda the same setup as CC so she did have some know how about how to send messeges and such (no she's not cheating on us and its not a poker forum lol). dont wait, make sure someone close to you knows how to access your important online imformation.

It's just another way for poker sites to profit...If I were to drop dead today, that money would be gone, no one would know how to get it or even which sites I currently have an cash account at...more profit for PS and FTP...maybe thats why there are so many bad beats, you lose a bad one, have a heart attack, and suddenly the site hits the jackpot. I wonder how long they keep cash accounts active when they haven't been used, anyone know the answer to that one?

Why worry about poker funds when you die? Just get your next of kin to sit you out, bury you with your laptop, and you can resume play once you get to heaven.. .. I mean really, you think God doesn't have wireless internet or something??? He's got wifi for your azz up there! sheesh, ya'll worry too much.. .. . And if you happen to head in the other direction when you die(south of heaven)you will be fine too, i hear they are still on dialup down there, but the good thing is you never have to worry about getting cold decked.

re: What happens to your online bankroll if you die? poker It is a bit of a dilemna isn't it? If someone else tries to get into your account, isn't that having someone else play your account? From the broad definition of the rules, I think it would be in violation. They would probably have to judge it on a case-by-case basis though. Although it's hard to argue with the evidence when someone dies. Guess that's really 'drawing dead'.... Had to do it!

ouch ! "drawing dead" indeed !! I like the idea in the article of leaving a USB flash drive with all your online info where loved one will find it. I want my wife to cash in my Poker bankroll after I'm gone !! No violation to have a check sent to "me" after I'm gone.

| I decided to e-mail FullTilt support because I couldnt find anything in their policies about it. Part of their reply is below. Quote:
It cost me $50 to make my will and have it noterised. I like to reveiw it once a year (usually when I do my taxes) and up-date it if needed. So if you have more than $50 to leave behind it is worth it. |

It seems like quite a conundrum (is that the spelling??), however it is possible. I, also haven't established such a large bankroll...but if I do, I would leave instructions in my will. Surely the online site couldn't keep the money if you were legitimately registered..

I have an alternative story from real life. A guy that works with my mom was married with a kid. He let his wife play online sometimes. He played up to 5/10 and although he never gave a specific number pretty sure he had around 20k online. So they get into a big fight and currently they're divorced, but before the divorce his wife drained the poker account (as well as their mutual bank account). Since they were married at the time there was nothing he could do and now he's out that money. So it works both ways. If you're going to share a password, make sure it's someone you really really trust and wouldn't mind giving them the cash to hold and trust them to give it back to you.

re: What happens to your online bankroll if you die? poker I got killed in the cash game last night! Seriously, a good post and some good answers, especially DogsBestFrnd's post about the Full Tilt policy - just tell your loved ones what sites you play on and you're all set even if they don't know the passwords...
