| What is the average age of an online poker player? I am surprised that Google turned up no studies surveys or any numbers for that matter. If I were to guess I would say the mean age is about 25. What would you say are the mean age median age and mode age? |

| Maybe you could set up a poll on here to see what the avg. age is for a Cardschat member is? My guess is that it'd be slightly higher than 23 due to there being quite a few older farts on here (myself included). I know... looks young up there in pic., but only on account of raiding my stepmom's christmas presents (Oil of Olay.. it keeps them guessing). |

| Ask Nick to show the numbers for this site, he has bdays for many members, sure it is part of regular data collection to sort these, along with gender, location, etc.. We have more older members than most forums I guess. A few of us are old enough to seriously skew the numbers upwards here; consider us outliers LOL... Overall 23/Male is your mean or average online player I would think. Why u bring up median and mode is beyond me -- you want to be a statistician? |

| I saw there's a 2 year Harvard study of 3,445 online poker players that suggested the average age was 27.9 (I assume that's the mean, although I share the OP's interest in the median and mode as well - can't help being a mathematician). It also suggest that almost 95% were male, which seems a little high, but may not reflect the most recent population of online players. |

And you answered your own question on why I would bring up median and mode. From what I understand a handful of high numbers can weigh the mean upwards and give an inaccurate depiction of the actual field of play. |

| Forum Info Would Be Nice [quote=Makwa;1388012]Ask Nick to show the numbers for this site, he has bdays for many members, sure it is part of regular data collection to sort these, along with gender, location, etc.. We have more older members than most forums I guess. A few of us are old enough to seriously skew the numbers upwards here; consider us outliers LOL... Nice idea, very interesting subject. We communicate regularly without having much of an idea of who we are talking to. It would be very nice to know more about the group in general. I guess I also qualify as an elder in this forum even though I don't think as myself as one. |

| now In these days the average age is much lower than what was maybe 10 years ago if online poker was going then. These days the poker world has a lot of young great players who can win the big tournaments more than once or twice adsthepro |

I think most would agree the more info you have on your villains, any kind, the better. Age and gender certainly figure high. Also, whats their income, how much do they have behind BRwise? Etc. And where from? Knowing u r up against a 21 year old multimicro wannabe makes tilting him that much easier, for instance... as opposed to the guys who have been around for years... These things and more added up, help us profile villains. So ya I would love to know the numbers overall for online players, also forum by forum (again I bet we skew upwards) and site by site.Someone is compiling these numbers, somewhere, as we speak... |

And Debi even if only 10% of 50,000 members gave a number, that is def statistically significant (and can be indicative of actual numbers)... |

Bias does not stop one from using stat samples, but does qualify them. That is good when acknowledged. Lets try to work with the numbers we have.... I mean err.. which we dont have yet but are there somewhere... Last edited by Makwa : 19th January 2010 at 10:02 PM. |

Its a start and analytic model to work from. So make it a more highly educated guess, which is better than we have now LOL. And qualitative (and anecdotal) data should be added to test hypotheses re underage, for example, et. al., including numbers from offshore if available (not). | Based off of data under "Calendar". It's public data so I don't see any reason this shouldn't be allowed but if it is for whatever reason, mods can delete this. Disclaimer: As I have stated before, I do not think this is representative of the whole online poker population in the least bit due to bias, potentially inaccurate source data, and a non random sample. This is more or less "just for fun". |

| Great find WurlyQ. I would say this is a semi accurate representation of poker regulars since they have taken the time to register on a poker site. |
