I just noticed this and this isnt directed towards any one person or group of people so no one take this personal. I noticed from reading through last couple of threads last couple of days we have alot of play money pro's. Anyone else notice this.

Like the guys that say they win freerolls all the time, or hey I win those sit and go's left and right maybe I should go pro.

Guys they are freerolls, more then half the feild is gone by 1st break, and they are terrible for your game. Yes I said it I think playing a freeroll could make you a worse player. BECAUSE you pick up habits that you normally wouldn't have, Like say you are on the button with something like AJ well in free money this hand is ok to call a all in with from a all in under the gun because basically his range is very high and you probably have him dominated. In a real money game you wouldn't even think about making this call.

I think free money causes tons of holes in your game. I think a player would be better off not playing free money and just read poker forums and books until he has enough real money to make a sizable deposit. Every once and awhile I will play them but my game has surpassed past the point of taking them seriously.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is please our free money players dont take your finishes in free money games seriously, do not think because you can crush the free money games that you are ready for the big games. So when you start online do not just jump up to 1/2 NL or higher because you can beat the 100/200 NL on free money. It is not even close to the same game. Just my opinion take it for what its worth.

I gotta disagree with you big time on this storms.

Freerolls are great practice for lots of reasons. Playing through large fields, playing against maniacs and fish, late tourney strategy that is harder to get to in big money tourneys. If you think that just because people are paying to play in $20 or $50 MTTs that you automatically have a better caliber of player, I disagree. You see these same types of people even playing the $80+20 at Midnight at the Taj!

Good poker players will read books and forums and be able to apply that knowledge to all situations (freeroll or pay). They will also be able to adjust their play based on the situations and the players they are up against.

I do agree with you though that it is crazy to win a freeroll or win $1 Million play money chips and think you are ready to go pro.

My opinion is that free rolls are horrible practice for playing with real money or seriously, nevertheless going pro. You can can catch a lot of chips early on in a free and it's definitely not the same kind of play. It also screws up your game drastically when trying to dodge a tourney full of donks. There's a huge difference between the two and the kind of skill level needed to make money/win at poker when playing with real money/a tourney full of people who paid to enter.

My feeling is to be a well rounded player you must know how to take on all types of players including calling stations, bullies, fish, and of course sharks. I think you get all of these in freerolls.
