VERY usefull tip for BR management

I can't help you join games within your bankroll however there is a certain feature on Full Tilt that I think everyone should know about if they are on a downswing.

It is the 'Self-Exclusion' feature. It allows you to voluntarily ban yourself from playing, including play money if you'd like for any amount of time from 12 hours-180 days. Yesterday I had a rough day and even though it wasn't my fault, I decided to ban myself for 12 hours so I could cool down from the incident.

Hopefully you guys use this feature when needed. I'm sure it saved me last night from jumping into any big games to try to win back my losses, and thats exactly why it should be used. Good luck guys!

yeah ive used that feature from time to time, they also have it on PokerStars
normally do it for 3 days so i dont bajunky tilt

To some of us it is extremely hard not to buy into that next game. Myself for example.

This feature helped me relax so I could focus on other things in life. Poker is fun, and quite frankly, I surround my life in it.

Personally, I think it's better to shift down in stakes as opposed to taking a break. Especially, as you said, if it's just a bad run of cards, and not an issue with not playing your best. If you're following good BR guidelines, then you should be able to drop down before doing any serious damage.

However, if you feel that you're not playing your best, then a break may be just what the doctor ordered.

What about in situations such as my own, where my bankroll is only $66 and there isn't anywhere to drop to?

I never said I had a bad run of cards. The problem yesterday was buying into a 33$ heads up match on accident and I ended up losing it. In an effort to start making some back, I jumped in some hands that were over my head.

With $66, you can drop down to $2.25 SNGs-you have enough for 29 games. Or if you're BRM plan is a bit tighter, then you can drop down to $1.25 which is 52 buy ins. So, I dont see how you can say there isnt any place to drop down too. Also, if you're at the lowest limit that your BR allows you to play, then dropping down in stakes doesnt apply. Now, you're BRM plan applies only when you're ready to move up stakes.

I'm almost that impulsive Spankynerd, thats why this feature helps me so much.

I'm already playing the 1.25 sng's. I can't drop any lower than that.

Then, if thats the case, you dont worry about dropping limits and just play the one you're currently on. Then move up limits when BR allows.

As for you OP, I agree its a good tool to use if you need a break for whatever reason.

You know, I saw that feature too and this is the first thing I thought of.

If I accidently put 1/3 of my bankroll in one sng I'd ban myself for a week.

I have read a little about it on pokerstars, you can limit the # of games you play in a month(?) also.

Sorry if you took this the wrong way, or if i sound harsh and not see it, but come on, poker isnt an addiction mate? If you need to physically get a site to ban you to stop you playing then you have problems.
I'm a smoker, I'm addicted to it. problem is, my wife also smokes, and when i give up smoking every time, it's so easy to nick a cig of her and light it, it's a chemical addiction. For you to play poker online you have to turn the PC on, load up the poker site, sign-in, and then register for a sng, etc. If you can't stop yourself at any step of that chain, then you have an addiction, mate, sorry.

As for your bankroll of $66 and BRM , saying you can't go any lower, well mate, i have 5 accounts with poker sites, and 3 of them are less than your bankroll of $66. One of them is at PokerStars, and one at FullTilt, where I'm grinding at the lowest levels/playing freerolls and doing good bankroll management, so why cant you?

These are all great points. Not every solution to tilt control or bankroll management works for everybody. The important point is that you need to find something that works for you.

I was not aware of these features but now that I am, I may use them in the future to prevent me, a senior level procrastinator, from playing poker when I need to be doing other things.

If you play heads ups in full tilt you'll understand that they fill very fast, so I bought into the game as quick as possible. I played out a few hands, only to realized then that it wasn't a 2$ heads up match, but a 33$ heads up match.

Lol I never realized this, although I think there is also something like this for depositing money also, but like some say on here, I just tell myself no, and do something where I'm not even thinking about poker at all, I had my GF change my password before without me knowing what it was, then had her change my email password too......seemed to work then I got alittle frustrated when it turned into a game of power...lol

Yeah. Poker is an addiction. In many ways it is not a bad addiction, but it can lose you money if you don't practice some sort of self control. I don't know when to quit sometimes. Or I jump on for a few minutes in the morning for a cash game. no big deal really if I go up or down a few cents, but it defeats the purpose of me getting ready for work.

I jump on before I go to bed when I should go to bed. So, now 7ish I can block myself for 12 hours. Forcing me to stay off of poker for a little while to get some sleep.

OK so I do think the game can be a chemical addiction. Still I think it's like liquor or sex. Reasonably safe so long as you're responsible.

I just know it triggers adrenaline and endorphins. I play for the game but won't lie and say that those surges feel bad. No they feel really really good.

Where I live some of the bars and restaurants have big bowls of free condoms by the register. Not everybody will take some or even need some, but it's good that they happen to be there just in case. To me the self-exclusion feature works the same. Not everybody wants or needs it but it's good for those who do.
