Using Time Zones to gain advantage online
It occurred to me that if you play in the UK or Europe, you could use the time difference with the US to gain an advantage over US players by playing at 8 to 9am UK/Europe time, when you're fresh from a night's sleep, and selecting a table on, say Party Poker or Poker Stars where there is a majority of US-based players, who will be playing in the earlier hours of the morning (from 1am Pacific time to 5am EST), and will therefore not be at their best mentally (the body's lowest state is around 4am). Has anyone tried this? If so, has anyone noticed it making any difference?

Any time of the day, you're going to run into real gamers and some that have no clue what they're doing. I don't think the assumption that Americans playing at 4am are easier money bacause of the time, there may be a ton of sharks on there waiting for these same "drunk and tired" fellow Americans...hopefully you don't bump into them and get busted. Not everyone keeps normal hours no matter where they're from.

It'll be interesting to hear your feedback, tenbob. I agree with diabloblanco that there will always be sharks at any hour, and that there are plenty of people who play poker online who are on night shifts, for ex., so you can't count on that much of an edge, but if you're playing poker as a long game, then any edge, however small, is probably worth considering; and this kind of edge, if there is one to be had, will only give measurable results over quite a long period of time. You'd probably need Poker Tracker or some other stats software to measure the effect, though I'm not sure if PT allows you to analyse hands by time of day.
Of course, the whole of the Middle East & Asia Minor could take us Europeans to the cleaners on the same principle as well...interesting daisy chain idea...I wonder where the money would end up, if there's always someone East of you, lol. |

That sit and go was one of the toughest that ive ever played in, went out on the bubble in 4th place, i was short stack and moved all in with QQ and big stack called with AK and hit.
But as Diabloblanco (hope i spelled it right) stated very correctly it is very easy to run into players at any time, day or night. Personally I have a very bad habit of playing online after i come in from the pub. (check out pokerstars tonight i might be there if your lucky) usually playing very aggressively lol. I have to stop this habit. Ive deposited at pokerstars twice since i went online, the first time i played 50-1 no limit drunk , with my full bankroll and busted in 20 minutes. The next drunken night was different went from 50 to 180bucks before i passed out on the sofa lol. But since then ive built up a decent roll (for me). Anyway im off for a few pints now, after one of them days, loads of posting so i had a very quiet day today. Enjoy the weekend. |
