Hey guys, I used to watch poker on TV religiously and one of my favorites to watch was Phil Laak. Not because of his poker play, but because of his antics, I always found him entertaining, but it has been many years since I have even heard his name mentioned. Does anyone know what happened to this character, did he go broke?

He is still around, I see him and Antonio Esfandiari playing / commentating on a lot of the cash games like late night poker, etc. Look for him on YouTube there are bound to be tons of clips.

I am definitely a fan too. He is still around playing the circuits, you can find his stats online on recent tournaments and cash games. Like NverBlufn said, he does do a lot of broadcasting with a couple different poker shows. The last comment also made me think of all of the YoutTube clips, but here is a classic (there is a lot of good clips of him on YouTube):

I would love to be able to say one day that I played in the One Drop in Vegas. That is another reason I respect players like him and the magician because they give back. Definitely shows what the poker community stands for and it is sad that you do not see that in the front page of the news, but you do see fossil man getting arrested for soliciting prostitution. Some news channels and political parties just love to demonize poker and the players.

I used to get called the unabomber when phil was more prevalent. Guess it was the only comment that people could make about all of the hoodies I would wear.

I couldn't help it that it was such a smart move to wear one! I was young and nervous and you could spot my heart pounding from across the room if you could just look at my neck, lol.

I'm a hoodie guy as well. For that, and because it always seems to be cold where I sit. Doesn't matter where I sit, they just move the vent over me.

Some day I'm gonna get me one of those XXX black CC hoodies. :birthday:

I'm a fan, but recently watching the NBC sports Poker After Dark (I think the episodes were old) I couldn't help notice how reserved his play was. Not at all aggressive.
I'm sure he's not like that all the time, but, it was quite obvious.

I used to play in hoodies a lot, but noticed you way more respect (bluffs through) if you don't wear one.

laak is the man, maybe not the best poker players but definitely keeps the fun in the game and keeps it very entertaining that is for sure. Him and Antonio also had a show where they would bet on random fun stuff. It was pretty comical as well. Also heard he was helping out children in poorer countries to. Seems like a great guy all the way around.
