Turning Pro: Chasing the Dream!

I saw this article the other day. It was about this poker player who turned $1 into $20,000.00 in a few months playing poker. Now of course this guy was already and established Pro, in fact, he's considered to be one of the top players in the world. Now I play poker online for fun, sometimes live when i can, and I have to admit I've had some pretty good results. In fact, Ive won many online tournaments with as many as 5500 entries, not bad for an amateur!
So I had this idea, what if I could do the same thing, but instead of starting with a dollar, I'll start with nothing! I know youre probaly thinking how can you start with nothing? Well, its like this...I joined this poker site and created a new account. Not having any money or making any deposits, my only option for monetary gain was to play in a freeroll. Freerolls are tournaments open usually to any member of the site, and are free to enter. Most freerolls usually have small prizes involved, normally a few dollars. Well, I entered the next freeroll available and low and behold i won 1st place out of 845 entrants which paid me $15 dollars! I was elated! For those of you who actually play poker, you know that its not really the amount of the prize, but the satisfaction of winning a tournament is such an adrenaline rush. Once you experience it, youre Hooked! I knew there was no turning back. So the question then became,, How far can I take this, how much can I win, is there even a limit to what can be earned?
The answer is No, there is no limit, there is no ceiling unless I as an individual set one. So here's my idea, If a player is good enough to consistently beat the game, then realisticly there should be no ceiling on his or her earnings...at least thats what i aim to prove. I plan on winning enough money to go to Las Vegas for 30 days and play nothing but poker everyday. At the end of the 30 days, I should have a significant amount of money from winnings. Keep your fingers crossed.
I'll update you on how my winnings are coming along from the initial Freeroll winnings, and I can tell you right now that some of you will not believe the progress ive made, but its all documented. Ill be posting again in the next couple days, so check back please! And please let me know what you think my chances are, and whats a realistic amount to shoot for in 30 days?

Too many up and down-swings to have a # in mind, just keep winning but if you need a # then how about triple your buy-in if playing ring games(per session).

Hello there.

Good luck with this.

Remember, poker isnt chess. The best player doesnt always win the money. You will need to have a very all-round long-term outlook rather than worry about too many losing/winning sessions or tourneys in isolation.

It would take extreme focus, control, knowledge and ability for this challenge to suceed. A former mathemetician, winner of multiple WSOP bracelets did this. Not many mortals could achieve it.

Once again, good luck

Ye i completely agree.

These pro's that can turn $1 into $x.xxx.xxx Theres a lot more to it than you think. I mean for starters these guys know the game better than anyone! They know what you're going to do and why you're going to do it.

The big thing to remember though is that how can tey win so much without getting bad beats for their bankrolls? Well thats bankroll management for you! They prob started with a lot of $1's until they won a MTT and turned it into 4 or 500! Once done, they'll be using table management playing at lower limit tables to increase the roll.. and using SNG's as a good bankroll builder...

Rounders tournaments on the Prima network are great bankroll builders so they'd prob invest it all in them! Win 1 of them and thats about $1800 I suppose! From there on its about SNG's and higher cash games!

Sounds easy right? But no. There's a lot of variance. You don't know the whole story unfortunately. He's a pro. I'm sure he had many many many $1's to start of with. Just because he did it once doesnt mean he could do it again in the same time frame with just $1! Sometimes luck does come into it!

If your a good player, possibily consider yourself as professional, then stick to what you can afford and improve your bankroll! The riches will only come when your skill simply deserves them! If you can't beat the games your playing with ease, then its a lot harder than you think to make so much!

Good luck anyway. For all I know you could be Phil Ivey in disguise!. I'm hoping your not just using cardschat as a method for freerolls as you've only posted once But if this is true good luck. Don't be disheartened if it doesnt work though.

Turning Pro: UPDATE!

So I managed to turn my initial freeroll win of $15 into $50. I then made the deposit to Full tilt where I began playing the micro limits. I've managed in my first couple of days to increase my bankroll to $140. I've also started to play the SNG's, which are my specialty. Other than almost tossing my computer out the window a few times after the occasional bad beat, I guess I'm doing ok! Some of you who know me, have watched my progress and know I'm a little further along than the posts would indicate. The reason for this is, I'm actually further along than this, I'm just transferring my original journal to this forum to give others an accurate account of my journey!

As of this date, I'm about 2 weeks from leaving for Vegas as I have already accumulated enough for the trip!

To all the people who have wished me well and given support, I would like to give you a very sincere THANK YOU!
