The true cost of FPP - my stats
Hi guys.
I have said before that I`m not a good ring game play - yet. I don`t think I have enough experience. The reason is I think is because when playing MTT u lose your chips and u r out. Playing ring games u can top up. So, I make money playing MTT and lose playing ring games. Anyway, that is not what I`m posting this for - that is background. I just thought I would share this with you. I play Pokerstars, and my stats for collecting FPP over the past few months are as follows... I count each minute I play if I`m multi tabling as a seperate minute. EG, if I play 2 tables at the same time for 60 mins I would count that as 120 mins played - understand? I also play $0.10/ 0.25 PL/ NL I make 0.33 FPP per minute, or 19.8 FPP per hour. It actually costs me $0.14 per FPP So 2 questions

At the moment, I make about 500 FPP per hour and pay about $20 of rake per hour. From there, one could calculate the amount of rakeback, but it wouldn't make sense to calculate how much one FPP "costs". |

However, when I play ring games I have lost just under $150. I can c u 2 guys play at a higher level than me - I would love to know how u can accumilate that many FPP per hour - how many tables, what stakes and what kind of poker??? One thing I did think is that I try to accumilate FPP to enter satellites to win places in the bigger tourneys. Having thought about it, because I have a resonable amount of success playing MTT`s, I would probably be better entering the cash satellites and trying to win my way like that. $150 in just under 2 months would buy me in to quite a few sats? |

I'm relatively new to online poker, but PS's FPP thing was one of the first things that I analyzed. When I looked at the prizes you could purchase with your FPP's, I became curious as to about how much real $ value each FPP held. By pricing several of the higher-end items like iPods, TV's, cash bonusses, etc (in the 17-50,000 FPP range), I determined that each FPP is worth about 1 to 1.3 cents (depending on prize and VIP level). At first appearance, this doesn't seem that great. However, it can be much better if you achieve one of the higher VIP status.
Currently, I am at Silver, which means I accrue FPP's at a 1.5x factor. I was trying to get to Gold this month to get the 2x factor, but encountered a downswing and I don't think risking more money to loss is worth it. To me, if you are a winning player and can get to Gold level, you'll probably be able to pull some nice prizes/bonuses (that's my goal for 1st qtr 2008). I've been able to accumulate the most FPP while playing $.50/$1.00 FL Omaha Hi-Lo. I'll have to check my PTO data to see the %, but it seems like on a good table, over 50-60% of the hands get at least 1FPP and maybe 5% or so get into the 2-3 FPP range (mostly 2's). The thing that really frustrates me is that for Omaha players, there are not a lot of decent FPP options for SnG's on PS. The only ones I've been able to get into only give 1 FPP and for about 1 hour's play, that stinks. I usually ramp up on SnG action when I'm on a downswing at ring games, but the low FPP rate is kind of a bummer. I guess it's just more evidence that 99%+ of the online players HEAVILY prefer hold'em, especially when you get into the higher limits. I'd love to get into a $3-$10 Omaha tournament, but there just doesn't seem to be enough interest. |

On pokerstars and Party u will find a lot of Omaha MTT throughout the day. What I do is set my Tourny filter to show only Omaha. Makes it easy then. |

I think I read somewhere that on Full Tilt you can get rakeback at something like 27%. Comparing that to the Stars FPP and the various items you can buy with them, including cash, it worked out something like 18%-22% depending what level your at and what you buy etc (approximate figures but they work out somewhat less than FTP).
I have worked out how many Vpp's I earn which is approx 210/1000 at 50nl 6 max cash. I'm at Goldstar level so that would equate to approx 420fpps/1000 hands. I play 600-800/hr. |
