Yeah, trash talking is okay and at times a lot of fun when you are playing with your buddies and having a good friendly game, but I really hate it when you get a trash talker at the table that you don't even know ... or ever want to know. They are truly annoying, but as Steveg72 said, just tune them out and play the cards.

yes

i really don't like when people do that. like i feel that if you're not saying nice hand or "damn that sucks for me" or something like that you shouldn't talk at the table. if you're just gonna try and mess with someone's head by saying stuff to them you're defeating the purpose of online poker. its supposed to be a bunch of people getting together (even though they're not really together haha) to enjoy the game and play it, not mess with each other. thats my personal opinion. anybody agree?

Some people want to get you on tilt. They want to piss you off! They want you to make bad decisions against them. Thay want to get you angry and off your normal game. Online poker in particular lends itself to that sort of stratagy. People feel untouchable at home. This happens in live games as well, some of the best players in poker use this weapon of trash talking to gain information. It's a game about people.

Yes, ticking someone off until they tilt is a very useful ploy.

My biggest problem though is with people who catch something, like a 4 out draw, and then procede to thank the guy for his chips. I find that most annoying. Especially because they beat the odds. Just be glad you beat the odds and if you want to get emotional, say yeeeeaaahhhh! There is no need to be an indignant jerk when you get lucky.

Well people tend to use whatever works for them in order to win, but in cases it do get out of hand. The thing that really gets my goat is when an observer comes in and starts talking trash, thats when i want to.....awwwww now i feel better

I think most of us have seen these trash talking morons either in real life or online. but at least online I enjoy the ability at pretty much any site to be able to mute that person's chat. Then it doesn't matter what they have to say, because I will never see it.

Now, if I could just figure out how to do that in a live game. Do they allow duct tape at the tables?

Depends on the mood i'm in :)

Hi all,
I love watching the chat, I don't often talk during a poker game only to say NH or TY but I love these guys who get really put on tilt because you just won a hand, I know a lot of players hate me at certain poker rooms as I don't go on tilt and nothing anyone says in the chat effects me. I try to look at it like watching a comedy show, if you take a laid back view of the garbage they talk sometimes it can be quite funny.
Definitely don't take anything said personally as they would have said it to any other player.
Most interesting comments made to me ?
You called me on that garbage???
Web i'm gonna f... you up
If we was in a live tourney i'd kick your face in
You wanna learn how to play poker you #.@#$#%.....
Most popular saying :
Your fu..... gay web
My wife was playing a tourney at prima poker just the other day and someone called her "gay" just because she had the better hand. LOL

You just can't take these people seriously, just play your game and laugh at the wierd comments and get a good kick out of it when these players go out.
Good luck

I have a part of my personality that requires me to tell a suckout exactly how I feel about him, rarely happens but there are times when I must "vent" in order to maintain my sanity. The ones who laugh when they pull something out of their ass make me wanna jump in my ultralite and fly to wherever they lay their head, seduce their woman and then take a dump on their front porch. But thats just me

I have found that I lack the maturity or patience to endure the seemingly endless barrage of trash-talking present at today's on-line poker tables. Despite my best efforts to ignore the offender, I inevitably allow myself to be drawn into exchanges that negatively affect my game. My solution? I now disable player chat when I sit down to play. Only the dealer summary appears in my chat box. While there's a risk that I may be construed as antisocial when I am unable to respond to a direct question or a "nh", I remain blissfully unaware of the potential garbage being spewed by my opponent(s). The bottom line is that adopting a "no chat" approach has improved my game tremendously.

I love playing trash talkers for the simple reason being is that they are already upset about something and if you can get them more upset about it they go on tilt (for the most part). I find it funny when people sit there and feel they have to bag on somebody at a table. I really love it when its me they start picking on. Sometimes its entertainment. My friends and I go back and forth with "your mom" jokes and seems to get the people at the table more into the game and keeps them around just for the entertainment.

First if all, if it bothers you that much you can just turn off the chat. And be like DAniel Negraanu....use it to your advantaeg. Use it to help read the players and what they have and how they play. When you bust a player hus been pissing you off, its all the better

The one thing that I hate the most is these people that start trashing you when they lose a hand that they should have never have played in the first place. I thinkd it is stupid for them to get mad at me when they screwed up.

Trash talking and being able to dish it out but not take it isn't reserved for online poker rooms. Anybody who's watched Phil Helmuth, Mike Matusow, or Josh Arieh play cards knows that when they suck out on somebody, it's not dumb blind luck, it's their own brilliance shining. But let them get on the receiving end of a bad beat and the other guy is the biggest idiot who ever sat down at a poker table. (Check out Matusow's WPT Aruba debacle for a great example.)

i like trash talking in RL, but i like to disguise the message..so they really have to think about it. twist so it sounds like a compliment, but if you break it down..im actually talking shat about them.

Matusow

Matusow's WPT Aruba hand was funny and annoying at the same time. But of course to him, it was a good move. I don't know about other sites, but on FullTilt, I'm able to block either observer chat, table chat, or all. I just block everyone, that way I don't have to hear the guy that called the all-in with an inside-straight draw and caught it, tell everyone how good he is.

I actually don't even tune them out--I just leave the table. It may seem kind of wussie, but I find it too distracting and I find players like that way too emotional to even play with---they'll call anything just to piss you off and sometimes they'll win which just feeds their trash talking all the more. Just find a new table.

TRASH TALKERS

My wife and I had a conversation about this when she first started playing. She doesn't like it and it used to put her on "TILT" a lot. What I told my wife was "It's a part of the game especially on-line." It would not get out of hand at an actuall Casino. Not to say there isn't any trash talking in live casino games it's just not as "VULGER" for a lack of better words. People will try to put others on "TILT" just to throw them off their game. As far as on-line playing is concerned I tell my wife to do what I do.

"KILL THEM WITH KINDNESS" nothing will tick these people off more than to see that they are not getting under your skin. Let it go and play "YOUR GAME" not theirs.

HAVE FUN !!!!!!

I would hate to play with some of these guys in a real game. I have been trashed with vulgarities just for winning a hand. I get a good laugh at those losers

the best thing to do is wait for your spot and BANG you stick it far up his azz, you have control your emotions, i was talking to my old boss yesterday and he has the same problem, he can't control himself and he wants to "get him" that's very bad. You keep playing your game, and you concentrate on what others are doing (betting pattens and so on..). People who talk trash no very well that it affects a lot of players, don't play their game, play yours

if i encounter a table-talker of this kind, i like to feed it back to them. i dont actually get angry, its hard to get angry when a prepubescent on a computer is calling you vulgar names because he cant run poker percentages and loses alot, but i find that if they think i am on tilt, they seem to go on tilt themselves. give it right back to them, and "fan the flames" so to speak.
