tourney or cash

Ok here's the thing, I myself swear I'm not playing poker for atleast A month, which then leads my brain to start thinking of my next move. Here's the situation, I recently just went broke no problem happens (it's a piss off but happens), but the thing Is I like playing Cash games, but not penny limits, now I'm not the richest so my bankroll really can't stand 2/4 for a long time, but .05/.10cents don't feel profitable, so my new plan is simple dump atleast 3k off my money in on 1 site or split is between 3 sites, and then play cash, but then I'd told my girl, and my brother this plan and they both agree that i'm much better in tourneys and that I should just play them instead of money, but then again tourneys are much longer and there is no guranttee that I'm going to finish in the top5, just wondering what do u all think is more profitable, and what route to take on this decesion, and if your all wondering why 3k not less it's simple, more money to me means more flexabiltiy, meaning I wont be as worried if I lose a 400 pot since I'd be left with 2600, because I noticed I'm losing regardless but the problem has always been being afraid of going broke, ty all who reply

Cash games are way more profitable. You gotta be able to take big swings of up/down occasionally though, I find its easier to control a progressive profit in cash, its just better overall.

I find bigger tournaments, most of the time, give you a tiny profit or suck you dry. Rarely you FT the tourney, and if you do the uber money is in the top 4.

Well that would explain why you go broke. You shouldn't even have 400$ in play at a time with a BR of 3k let alone be in a position where you could lose it all in one hand. Play what you want...both cash games and SnGs can be very profitable.

Do you really think a bigger BR to start with will help you win more consistently?
You also state that the micros are not that profitable, are you looking for the fast buck?
Before you can move up in limits you have to have a consistent winrate, whether it be the micros or not, but consistency is the key here.
You have to be able to win consistently on the micros before moving on to the higher levels.
At the micros you learn patience, discipline and proper BRM and without these 3 key elements, there is no way that a higher starting BR will help you to become a better player.

Ok, heres my take. I have had the same problem with the cash tables seeming to be alot more volatile to my bankroll. I seem to play well, etc and lose a big pot to a suckout. I know i need to allow for variance but my swings are bigger with cash tables.

I feel i am better with tourneys also, and agree that the mtt's are harder to cash.

Why not try hitting the sng's. I find that i am able to cash them more often than not.

Cash tables will pay more steadily, which for some people does equal faster. But when you do hit in a decent MTT you will win alot more alot faster.

cash games are big swings. Profits are not defined in day to day they are defined by year (maybe month if you work pay check to pay check).

I've been at the $1/$2 tables and went up $1000 in one day only to loose it all later that night on 2 crazy hands. If you can't withstand the swings tournaments are your best bet.

If you are -3k total in poker i would definitely not advise putting in 3k to try and win it back...more than likely you will just end up losing another 3k. Try depositing 500$ and aiming for something like +30$/day. Doesn't seem like much at all (and it isn't) but over a year that is about +9000$ if you play regularly. Trying to play underrolled at higher stakes in an attempt to win back losses is more likely to start a horrible losing cascade than the opposite.

Also don't write off lower limit games. After all, a ROI of 40% at 10$ stakes is better than 8% ROI at 50$ stakes because you are risking less to gain the same.
