+1 for Maverick Depends what game you're talking and what level. Professional No Limit Holdem by Miller, Mehta, and Flynn is a great one for higher level NL online games. Small Stakes Limit Holdem by Sklansky, Malmuth, and Miller or Low Limit Holdem by Lee Jones are great FL holdem books for the lower levels. Theory of Poker is a great one for all things poker by Sklansky. I'm sure there are plenty of other books for other styles of poker, but on those I'm not so well versed. All you really need to do is watch Maverick though.

SS might be the first real poker book, it might be a huge part of poker history and it might be written by one of the best players ever but its still outdated(SS2 also) and has litle relavence to todays game. If u ever find your self in a 300BB deep, weak passive live NLTH game then a copy of SS might come in handy but if u play online or the standard 50-100BB casino tables then u be better of with basicly any other poker book IMO. i dont agree with putting the FTP strategy guide in second, decent book but not much more then that imo. Also i think u have to specify more what u mean by top 3 poker books. Do u mean top 3 NL tourney books? top 3 cash game books? top 3 books with the biggest influence on poker? Im sure plenty of people would argue that High-Low-Split Poker, Seven-Card Stud and Omaha Eight-or-better or Sklansky on Razz are the best poker books ever written but there not exactly mainstream even in the poker community. I havent read but im pretty sure that the Baluga whales or bobbos ebooks would have a much greater influence on your game then any sklansky or Harrington book... Any way my top 3 would be. Profesional NL Holdem by Miller, Mehta, and Flynn. Winning Poker Tournaments one hand at a time by Rizen,Pearljamer and Apestyle. The Poker Mindset. |

This would be hard honestly... I think the only thing you will get much agreement on is that Harrington's Tournament books belong. And totally agree with AG about super system... nowhere close to top 3 There better be something from Sklansky in the top 3.... My personal favorite of his is NLHE Theory and Practice... (easily one of the best, if not the best, cash game book out there)

I don't know guys. Super System 2 is a pretty good book for understanding all the different styles of poker. I would agree that it doesn't have the best NL hold 'em section. But, I think the section on Limit Hold 'Em is the best I've read. So, I think it has to be in the top 2-3 because of all the great sections of the book. Probably not in the top 3 if this was NL hold 'em books but for overall poker books I think it makes the top 3.

I have read Super System 2 and some sections are good and others not. Todd Brunson's section on Stud 8 or better is surprisingly good. I have the two HOH tournament books and both are good but the second is the better of the two Theory of Poker by Sklansky is what I am currently reading and I recommend it Still looking for a good book on low limit internet NL rings.
