Tipping the dealer after a tournament?
OK, so I know it's common protocol to tip the dealer in ring games if you've just won a big pot or had a good session. But what about after you've won or placed in a tournament? Do you tip the dealer at all? If so, how much? Do you tip all the dealers who've worked the tournament tables, or just the one at the final table?
I haven't had the pleasure of being in that situation yet but hope to correct that someday soon. ![]() |

While you technically don't have to tip the dealer after a tournament, you are looked down upon if you don't throw a couple bills towards the dealer after you have won a tournament. As for an exact amount or a percentage, I really don't know.

I am a big advocate of tipping, poker or otherwise. I would say that $50 is too little as it is less than 1% of a $10,000 purse. But what is the proper etiquette for dealers? I guess whatever feels right. I think at least $100, but I would probably go for $500.

Thanks for the answers.
![]() What about the issue of multiple dealers, though? At every tournament I've played at there have been three or four dealers, who rotate tables every so often. Do the winners tip the dealer at the final table, then go hunt down the evening's other dealers and tip them, too? |

i gues it would depend - because normally they are still in the same room, but sometimes dealers are real assholes so forget that. i have a few i am in good with at a casino iplay at, and i make sure they get helped out, but screw the cranky ones - they are gonna be cranky at me no matter what.

I'm not sure how it works in tournament play, but I know that at my casino, all the dealers in the entire casino split all the tips (crazy huh?). If you're not sure, you can always ask! I'm sure they would be only too happy to set you straight on just what you can do!

Not sure? Ask the tournament director about it. |

You could always pull a Joe Hachem and tip the entire floor staff of the tournament $100 USD after winning $7,500,000 USD. That's a true story. That cheapskate bastard tipped the tournament staff a hundred bucks total...not each, total, after he won the Main Event. To put it in perspective, 2004 winner Greg Raymer, when asked if he would like to tip the tournament staff with any of his winnings before they wrote the actual check, he tipped $60,000. He won 2.5 Million less and tipped $59,900 more. Joe Hachem is a bum.

Tipping a lousy hundred bucks after winning 7.5 mil?? What a cheapskate! The amount someone tips can really say a lot about them.
Good for Raymer for sharing the wealth... *that* almost makes me want to be a tournament dealer. ![]() |

I don't know about you guys, but as a college student, a $100 tip looks fairly decent, lol. Especially when it was to everybody not just to one individual. Now he's not going to win any humanitarian awards for his tipping, but at least he tipped them something, right?
