Taking the Plunge.. So I've been a micro stakes player for over a year and have had moderate success. Recently however, looking at the amount of time I'm putting in and the gain I'm receiving I'm left wanting something more. With that comes the desire to play for some higher stakes. I have the means to make a $600 deposit on Poker Stars which would would give me the opportunity to earn a 100% bonus and the roll to play .10/.25 and some tournaments previously out of my bank roll. What I'm wondering is, how hard will it be for me to make this bonus happen and is it a good idea to give up on building a small bankroll into something substantial by putting in more money?

There is no law saying you have to grind the micro stakes to be a good player. If Bill Gates wanted to learn poker...he could afford to take his lessons at Bobby's Room. If you have $600, and you can afford to lose it if you should hit a spot of bad luck...then go ahead. I've built my roll to 600+ after two months of grinding out the micros with a $100 starting roll. I am currently playing 25NL and I find that $500+ is way way more than sufficient to keep a competent player from busting out at this stake.

re: Taking the Plunge.. poker more of a personal choice here because you can read different articles on bankroll management and ways to handle your money but while most of that is good and can actually help you it's really based on there personal experiences or the way they play. If you play fairly tight you can take chances with less of a bankroll. HOw do i know this because i've took $50 and went to $2000 in 15 days just playing 25/50 heads up. Now i know there was some luck involved but i had to make sure when i was given a bad beat i didn't go crazy and lose it all.
