Taking breaks.

I've been running extremely bad lately, no matter which limits I play or what game I play, I just run awful every single day. I'm thinking negative at the table, my confidence is low, I'm playing scared, and on top of that I've been extremely unlucky. I got an Xbox 360 for christmas so gonna play that for a few days instead of poker. I noticed that whenever I take a break, right when I start playing poker again, I always do very very well. It's very weird because I just can't figure out why that is, I don't think I play any different.

How often do you guys take breaks and how long are your breaks? What do you do instead of poker during your breaks?

Great post !! I think too many of us don't know when to quit for the (day, week). I like to read when I take a break or do something else that requires concentration, like word games or Sudoku. Sometimes, I'll log into a freeroll and just be an absolute donkey, play anything and everything. Nothing cures tilt faster than sucking out on someone else.

I tend to play a lot when I'm losing or breaking even. I often don't feel content if I have to quit without having made a profit, so I just keep on playing. I don't normally tilt though, so it's all good.

I rarely take breaks from poker at the moment. I'll take a break if:
a) I have other obligations and don't get to play
b) I don't feel like playing (which would prevent me from playing my A game)

b) usually won't last for more than a day

I take breaks whenever I am not 'feeling it'. Don't even have to be on a big downswing, if I don't think my head is in it I play the ol playstation for a few days and come back refreshed.

After a break you just seem to lose some bad habits and play better. Of course it helps if during your break you can go over some of your stats and try to plug some leaks.

If you're playing bad, running bad or tilting, then a break is for you. You will be astonished at how much life there is outside your dark poker lair.

Also, if you have problems taking breaks I reccomend getting a girlfriend. I heard those make you take breaks, once you start loosing too much of the money that is supposed to buy them gifts.

Seriuosly guys, just because you are taking a break doesn't mean you have to start playing World of Warcraft instead.
