Switching to Limit

I've recently switched over to 0.50/1.00 limit holdem cash table. Ive always been more of a Sit-n-Go and MTT player and usually only use cash games to help fund these tournies. Problem is I'll grind out a little profit at no-limit only to go backwards when the badbeat comes to the aggressive maniac at the table.
Anyways I've started playing this limit game and yes you always have the guys who will chase to the river (and catch it sometimes as well). But you also have the guys who are calling all the way with bottom pair. At least when the chaser hits in this game it doesnt always cost you all your chips. I know it'll have its swings but Im going to try it out for a while and see how I do.

Chasers are where you make your money at limit. Like you said, they hit, and that makes you mad, (AHHHH DIE YOU FISH!!!!)

Then they pay you off with middle pair 8 kicker, (I remember why I play this game)

I like limit better live, where players are playing TERRIBLE poker and it's $3/$6 or $4/$8. Actually, that's where I'll be today.

I've been making a nice profit at the limit tables lately. It's like they say.. The more hours you put in, the more profit you make. Takes more patience.. but multitabling is much easier, cause you don't have to think about bet amounts. I like it very much.

That is actually the best way to make money in limit, chasing down flushes and straights. I realized that when I first started playing limit at casinos and I kept telling my buddy that plaays limit all the time, how many straights and flushes I was folding. He told me you have to chase stuff down in limit. I took his advice, and now almost every time I hit the casino I come out ahead.

Agreed! If you don't have rakeback & you're not clearing a large amount of bonus, then the microstakes limit game is a very tough grind to beat the game for a decent rate.

I've been playing 7-card stud & Stud Hi/Lo split for the past 6-8 months or so at the 1-2 thru 5-10 levels, and the profit margin there is very slim. I'm making a decent profit over the past 8k hands, but if I wasn't clearing bonus & getting rakeback I would be break even.

Limit hold'em is a little better since your edge is a bit bigger than stud games, however, as FP recently said, he quit limit hold'em because he likes money. Every decision is worth the same amount of money, and that means small leaks that wouldn't matter in no limit (because the pot is small) suddenly becomes a HUGE leak in limit games. And unlike no-limit, your bets are just too small for you to be exercising any huge edge.

online I only play limit games just cause you don't lose your whole stack on that suckout. Live, I mix it up, alot of nl at 3 am when the clubs close and the drunks think its a good time to make money...during the day or when I'm looking for better play, its alot of limit usually 50-100

I play the micro stud games on Stars and don't find that to be the case at all. I have a small BR that can absorb limit variances and seldom find max bet capping at the stud tables. What you say may be true at the Holdem tables, since I don't play those.

Limit games are for those (like me) who do not mind grinding it out. I've played limit live since '69 and still prefer it, even today. It is rare that I leave a session with a losing balance.

Well Limit is quite good thought, you don't have to go all in but yeah it can be such a pain becuase everyone calling. :P

If you are upset about chasers catching things, limit probably isn't what you want to switch to. In limit, it's your bet will generally give someone equity to chase a draw, whereas in PL or NL, you can take away those pot odds and make it to your advantage for them to call with a draw.

Is it true that many times in limit it is +ev for the person chasing and for the person betting?

yea. this is also sometimes true in no limit (ie. heads-up, both people get all-in preflop with KK and AA -> it's +EV for both of them because each hand plays very well against their opponent's range, so it's +EV for both to go all-in).

i dont like limit in any way for Holdem.

Even if mostly of the time your winning in the flop always ending losing to a chaser in the river.

Omaha or razz are ok in limited because every card change your hand, but for Holdem is better No Limit.

Min bet pokah....makes me want to die a slow painful death. How can you not love unlimited texas hold them with the most devastating move in all of poker, the rwall rwin.

I love playing No Limit tournaments, but when it comes to cash games, I play Limit. Yes, the suck outs are frustrating, but to me not nearly as frustrating as losing your whole stack with a second best, but very good, hand in No Limit. Limit Hold'em, particularly at lower limits, is the essence of "No Fold'em Hold'em." But, if winners primarily make money from the mistakes made by opponents and low Limit Hold'em games are the place where more mistakes are made than anywhere else, then low Limit Hold'em games are a money maker. Yes, it is a grind and yes you have to keep your emotions in check when someone beats you playing 8 2 off suit. But, if you can grind it out and avoid slugging a donk when he sucks out, you can fund a nice bankroll.

(If Limit is for beginners, why is Limit Hold'em the only Hold'em game played in H.O.R.S.E.?)

Don't like nlhe at all way to many chasers that seem to hit on the river.But I only play low stakes so that may be the problem. I do like pot limit omaha though even though I'm just a rookie at it.But got to learn sometime and pot limit seems to work for me.

I prefer mixed games (focusing on HORSE now, but the PS 8-game is good too). I don't have sufficient data to prove it but I think I do better in the mixed limit games than any 1 of the games in the rotation individually. Not sure why that is, but I think it's because I'm better than most of the people in most of the games but not good enough to take as solid a win rate at a 1 game table.

Anyway, I don't think no limit/pot limit games necessarily provide better (or, at least, vastly different) win rates against limit games if you're equally skilled. But again, I don't have data supporting this. And it would probably be difficult to prove it one way or the other anyway considering most people aren't equally skilled at any two games.

Every card changes a hand in EVERY poker game. That's why they don't show you all the cards on first round in any poker game I can think of.

Playing limit you make a decision on every card. In nlhe you often make only one - gambling at it's extreme.

You're better off betting and raising your stronger draws than chasing. You're less likely to get calls on the turn/river when the bets have doubled and a scare card hits. Get your money in on the draw.

So NL has the BS bluffers that would NOT be able to do so as successfully playing limit. Pick your poison. I'll pick limit where I have a chance on capitalizing on others mistakes, as opposed to dealing with raising 5x at will with a draw or anything at all.

been thinking about grinding 3/6 limit for a month and getting SN... if i did it on NL 100nl it would take 2 months, so I think I will try this... once im supernova I will go to 100nl.

I find myself just getting frustated at limit. I feel that I can NEVER get anyone off a hand. At least in no limit you can push a decent amount and people will actually think about folding. In limit it seems no-one ever folds..chase chase chase... just my 2 cents!
