A success story

Alright so after months of the micro limits, and losing my buy ins and poor suckouts and such I decided I couldn't play micro limits anymore. I did what nobody should do. I took my whole bankroll of $160 and went to the $1/2 tables. I doubled up. I decided the play there was a whole lot better, or if some1 made a bad play they paid for it by increasing my bankroll. Over the last 2 weeks my roll is almost to 1,000. I mostly play .50/1 but also sometimes .25/.50 or 1/2 occassionally. I am playing very well and avoiding situations where I can lose my buy in. I am well on my way of finally building my bankroll the way I want.

I also placed in a 5$ mTT snG and won $160.

Funny how conventional wisdom for gambling is to not gamble. You took the unconventional stand, a gamble here, and it payed off. WTG !!!!

Good for you. If that's the way you wanna build your BR then so be it. Ive always felt comfortable playing at a level were i only have 10 buyins.

However, you cant complain if you go broke. You said that you couldn't play micro limits anymore due to suckouts and losing buyins. Well the bad beats arnt gonna stop just because your playing higher stakes. And losing buyins? Maybe you were playing bad? The way i see it, the higher the stakes you play the better the players are, and i would rather play against bad players wouldn't you?!

Today alone i start with 50$ on a .50/1 and my stack is up to 600$

im very comfortable at these limits. i am playing well. folding when I know I am beat. At these limits people fold and won't chase $25 to the river for a flush. My gamble paid off. Of course if I lose $50 I drop down to .25/.50 for a bit. Overall I am comfortable I am not playing over my head.

I agree with your play. I think the most effective way to build a BR is to either save up to start above micro limits where you can really play your game and not have to worry about so many suck outs or to do what you did and give it a shot to get it kickstarted.

Don't get me wrong though, this is just to start the BR building. I don't agree with playing limits that can be so devistating to your BR if they are above the low-mid. Good job and GL.

All I'm saying is be careful, you might just be on a good run. Even though you might be trying your hardest to avoid tricky situations, this is no limit holdem and they will come.

^^This is a good thing. I still don't get why people want the bad players off their tables. It may be confusing and frustrating when the donks hit, but believe it or not most of the time they don't and that's how you make money. If someone wants to call a pot sized bet on the turn to try to get their flush on the river then I'm happy, your betting money with the odds in your favour! That's what i love about poker.

I get what you are saying and I know I got lucky to get to the point I am at. However I like higher limits as I can make much more money than grinding it out at the lowest micros. Like I said when I run hot, I maximize my profit, and when I am losing I minimize my losses and tighten up my play and drop down a limit.
