Generally I like to play small starting pots with suited cards, i.e. 24J. Also, connectors such as KQJ or 876. I want to raise 3 of a kind (of course), large pairs, small suited cards, or even small connecting cards, *small = 7-6 and under* Playing small pairs is really hard, and I really don't like to play much with them. I'll occasionally play them to mix up my game, but if I'm not hitting anything after the 4th card, and the bets are doubling I'll generally fold them. And, I especially don't play them if they're like 339 i.e. no large kicker since it seems like alot of pots come down to whoever has the higher two pair..

re: stud hi/low and stud hi in horse poker so you are saying it is really smart to only play monster hands in this game and it should pay off because i havent been doing so bad playing that tight in this game but i was just wondering if i would get more chips by playing a hand like ah.kh.9s

Stop playing HORSE is my first advice. Secondly, AK_9hs is a decentish starting hand in stud hi depending on the upcards, and its trash in stud 8. The games differ so much. I suggest you pick one, and play it for a while to get the hang of it. And by a while, I mean about 10,000 hands. There's no one piece of advice that I can give you that will instantly make you profitable at either of these games. Let me know which game you pick (I'd suggest stud 8), and then I can give you some stuff to read. But really, stop playing HORSE until you actually have an edge.
