| Stud Is Dead... Is it me or does it seem like stud is a dying game now and days. I remember going into casinos years back and stud was the main game going. Just thinking back and reminising about the days before the holdem blow up. |

| I dunno if I'd say it's dying - how many entrants are stud events in the WSOP getting these days compared to what they got years ago, for example? Hold 'em is undoubtedly the most popular game now, but that doesn't mean that stud is dead. |

The main part of poker for you is to bluff?? Do you win much? By the way, there are numerous situations in stud poker when it is very profitable to bluff. |

Holdem became popular because it supposedly was a faster game, although on-line I find the Stud game moves along faster than Holdem (maybe not so much in real games). I played eons ago in Vegas and enjoyed the game much more than I ever have at Holdem. Unfortunately none of the casinos in my city hold Stud games. One point about Stud games in a casino - at the showdown you may not know if you have been rivered or not since the last card is a down card and your opponent can shuffle his cards. This is definitely an improvement over Holdem - aren't you sick of players complaining about the river card??? |

| I must admit I have never been into Stud or Razz mainly because I dont understand either game all that well (Not to proud to admit that) but also because they seem to take too long to play each hand. I like a game that moves along a bit and neither Stud nor Razz fit that bill for me. The Muppetteer |

There are probably more stud players today then there ever been, but they are so out numbered by the holdem players. |

| Everything goes up and down. I think most casinos would rather have a hold em game then a stud game. Pechanga Casino in California (where I live) has a stud game that I love to play and its full of old guys. It's one table and its the most fun you'll ever have. |

| I grew up playing Stud, and all the variations, with hi-low, wild cards, jokers, and Black Bottom. I don't think many people play those games anymore, but they were a lot of fun. We'd play dealer's choice, and the variety was great. Many younger players think Holdem is the only game. So sad. Anybody remember playing Indian poker, where you put the card on your forehead and guess whether to go high or low by looking at the other player's cards, but not your own? Ahhh, good times. |

| Lazy players & casino greed killing live stud games. IMO, the reason Holdem is so popular is because it is an easier game to play half drunk and still have a chance of getting lucky and winning, particularly on the low limit casino scene. Think about it, how many times have you been playing at a holdem table and have some drunk stumble up, who doesnt even know the structure of the game and has to be reminded every round what the correct bet is, call everything, catch everything, and fill up a couple of racks in 20 minutes when you have been battling to try and stay up for two hours? If that doesn't put you on tilt, you are doing well. I don't care what the books say, if you put about three of these at a table, they will beat you more times than not. Lets face it, Holdem does not require nearly as much effort to play as stud does, and personally I think the luck factor (present in any game involving cards), is much higher in Holdem than Stud. Holdem attracts a lot of young, inexperienced players at casinos that have seen it on tv and want to play. These players will throw lots of money in the pot which means maxed out rake for the casino hand after hand. It is also a faster game, again...more money for the house. Stud is more likely to draw a more mature, tighter group of players who will actually fold rather than chase every hand to the river. There is also only 8 players at a full stud table opposed to 10 at a holdem table...another reason casinos would rather have the holdem tables. It is frustrating to me that, here in Mississippi there is hardly ever a stud gave available anymore. There was an interest list last week at the Silverstar, and about 7 or 8 folks were on it...still no stud table was opened. We owe a debt to holdem for stirring the storm of interest in poker that it has, but it is a shame to see it damage all the other poker variations so severely in live venues. I would also say that stud is more profitable for a good player online than holdem. My win rate on low limit stud online is probably 70% or better...something I will never be able to approach on holdem I'm afraid. Anyway, that's my opinion for what its worth. Long live stud..."real" poker! |

| re: Stud Is Dead... poker Stud rules, and will forever. Online, it is everywhere. Casinos? Who cares, they are all going out of business anyway. Myself I especially like stud, in all versions, because all the internet HE kids dont have a clue and try to learn the game, which I have been playing for decades... who wins? |

| re: Stud Is Dead... poker I think i would have to agree with that, stud is almost like a joke. Almost no one knows how to play the game at all and all people do is push, push, push really hard to take serious. I like it with good players but good luck finding that. |
