Strongest card in a deck

Can anyone stop a long running argument for me?

What is the strongest card in a deck of cards, mainly in poker??

i have read that the A♠ is (ACE/SPADES incase that didnt work)
i said that one night and a friend went bananas saying its the A♥ (ACE/HEARTS), is there a "strongest card" and if so, what is it, please i know im going to get answers of thing like 2 of diamonds is, im actually truly wanting to know this answer

ummm Well that would depend on the card game! The ace of spades is the prettiest As far as poker goes there is no one Ace that is "stronger" than the other unless you are dealing in flushes................

In poker, suits don't matter during game play, so any ace is as strong as any other ace.

The only time it would make a difference is when high carding for the button before a tournament. In the case of a tie, suits are used as a tiebreaker in the order of spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs -- so in that case you'd be correct that the ace of spades is strongest.

^Actually, the ranking for suits are Spades, Diamonds, Hearts, Clubs. Other than that, everything else you said is correct.

In bridge, the ranking is (from lowest to highest) clubs, diamonds, spades, hearts, in regards to the bidding. *shrug*

But the ace of spades, besides being a legendary rock song, is also the prettiest, as XD pointed out.

The easy way to remember is it is reverse alphbetical order. S for spades, H for hearts, etc.

It is in correct to say that suits dont play in "poker". It is more correct that they don't play in HOLDEM. Only because the nature of community cards do not allow for to different suited flush draws.

Let me ask you this? In seven stud, If i have an A high flush in spades, and you have an A high flush in Hearts.... Do we split? Or do I win?

7 stud is still "poker".

I haven't played much stud, but I thought that ranking was for who had position, and that you would indeed have split that pot. I could be wrong though (as proven earlier in this thread).

I think you are right on this one Bil. If the flushes were identical then Spades would win. At least that is the way I grew up playing.

AceofKings,

have a guess.

would have to be the spade....psychologically,

that is. hard not to feel the superior strength of

AK-S vs. AK-D even though you know them to

be equal.

Bill..

It be a draw.. a flush is a flush in poker no matter how you slice and dice it..
Unless of course it is a straight flush or royal.. All because it isn't said "I have Ace diamonds flush"

It would go right down the rankings..You might have 7 cards but it still becomes best 5 cards win.

Hope to see you at a 7 stud table against me then. Bill is correct. In 7 Card Stud any tied flushes are broken by the suit order with spades being the best.

After reading my post I guess I could have been a tad more specific ace high flush in any suit is of equal strength you just have to go down the the 4 other cards to see who wins the hand.

A flush occurs when you have five of the same suite. If the cards were also in succession (like a straight), then it would be a straight flush. To determine which flush wins if there are more then one in a hand, then the person with the highest card in their hand wins. In the example to the right, the person has a ten high flush. This would beat someone with a nine high flush and below. Flushes are pretty common in hold'em

The suit order of the cards isn't taken into account while deciding the winning cards. Should poker hands be absolutely identical in ranking, the rule of poker pot distriubtution will be split between the two or more winning players.

You are basically saying you've got a pair of aces and I've got a pair of aces. So you win cause you have the ace of spades. Sorry poker doesn't work like that..

I concede Twizzy is right.

I have apparently been playing 7 stud wrong. Although, in truth I dont think the situation ever came up.
