Starting off a $3.00 bankroll

So this is my third try to builld my bankroll from the pokerstars play chips ive sold. The chips value has gone down quite alot so i sold 1 million for $3.00!

Anyways id like to know if people have any good tips for such a low bankroll since I havent had much luck with it myself.

I mostly play micro tourneys. And the occasional ring games which i always go bankrupt on.

Yes seriously, I know a decent value these days for 1 million is $7-9.

But all these websites are always full of chips so i had to settle with 3.

$3 really can't be considered a "bankroll" as such - it's certainly not an amount you can apply proper bankroll management to. So just pick your best game at the low stakes, play your best and what happens happens. If you lose, start over.

You cant consider $3 a bankroll. You cannot follow BRM with $3, its just too small an amount.

$3 is $3, its not a BR ... its not even enough to buy a sandwich.

You could play .02/.04 Limit or .04/.08 Stud or Razz and just try to grow it to a reasonable level.

Play the .10 cent FTP rebuy and dont rebuy....

Otherwise, quit putting all the time into play chips and try to get an initial BR by playing the CC Freerolls. If you are any good at MTTs you can make a decent starting BR at least on these, instead of $3 which is a little to low to get anything going. $5 just to make a cash in a CC Freeroll, and 50-60 bucks if you win

If you are on stars, then probably just play the 10c 360 tournaments and any micro MTTs they have. But starting from $3 would be very difficult.

Alternatively you could just play some $1 sngs and hope to get lucky and make it into something that is workable. $10+ is definitely possible, $20+ should be pretty easy to turn into something. The problem with $3 is it could take you 6 months to get to $20 if you were only to play the 10c tournaments...in which case you are better off working a couple hours and depositing $50 if that is an option for you.

There's tons of options for $3 roll on Stars.

The .25 MTT money added is one of my favorites.

I've played with a sub-$10 roll for months... I wore it down to 12 cents and am now back up over $6.

Look for money-added micro tournaments, and the CC sponsored buy-ins. Also - start banging freerolls for more cash.

Dump the playchip nonsense - its a waste of time.

Play freerolls to build up some more money.

@ OP: I didn't mean to "blow your hopes", nor did anyone else I'm sure. It's the reality of the situation though - you don't have enough money to apply BRM, so just take your shot. If micro tourneys are what you're best at, then definitely play those.

In that case, You have more realistic options, including the plentiful .10 cent and .25 cent MTT's (try to keep with ones with added money). Also, if you have FPPs, play the Sunday 50 FPP tourny that guarantees $2K in prizes.

They have some nice guaranteed 1.10's also that are easy to cash, although quite a strain on the BR if you do not. The 1.10 SNGs are a better bet.

PS much more likely to build on than FTP with $3...but still consider easier BR building path by playing CC freerolls and running it up with that money

Sit down at the lowest rings and don't do anything drastic. I am sure countless people have made a decent roll from such a small amount.

IMO the 360 seater .10 turbos are pretty tough to cash in for obvious reasons. It's more of a BINGO! session than going to the rings and having some real control.

There is a nice little sit and go on Pokerstars . 90 man. for0.25 with no rake ! Pays $6.20 for cashing. You start with 2000 chips, so there is plenty of play in it. I would imagine sitting tight and letting all the fish bust each other up would work well in this.

I think that would be a good start. You have 12 buy ins.

With $3 I think the only thing you can do is to pick a $2 + R SnG and have a go. I would be tempted to keep it to 9 players and hope that you finish in the top 3. If you can do the same and hope you get a run to increase your BR.

I think it all comes down to what you want out of Poker.

Do you want to play a lot and grind out a decent bankroll over time, or do you want to sit down at a slot machine and pull the handle to see if you get lucky? If you want to play and get good experience - grind it out at the micro limits (either FR or MTT). If not, find a $2.20 MTT like the $5K guaranteed and go for it.

Not good advice. Sitting down at a rebuy with only one buy-in is suicide. You might as well just ship me the money before you sit down.

there are some .10buyin with $50 added on pokerstars with no rebuys. so it is played a little better than the freerolls or the rebuy tournys. i won $4 in the ept freeroll and tried the rebuy tournys before i noticed that the .10 $50 added was like a freezeout, no rebuys.

10 cent tourney would be best + freerolls. $1 DoN if you're getting bored.

I think $3 at pokerstars, is good enough to get a BR started, i actually started with .27 cents i won in a juno invitational freerolls and i played them at the .02/.04 limit tables and i got it up to $1 so i moved on to the .01/.02 NL tables and i got my $1 up to $6 (yes....i felt rich) but after 1 day of tilt i went down to $3.50, but i don't play there very often now, so you just have to play your best, 1 bad day and you could end up completely broke. too bad pokerstars dosn't have very many freerolls like fulltilt does.

fwiw, i was totally against depositing when i started (because i had no idea how to play and was adament that i wouldn't lose money playing poker) but i got a $15 free roll, which IS enough to start from, whereas $5 or less really isn't unless you get lucky or are willing to take forever to build it. Now, i am more in favour of depositing if you have played some freerolls and read some stuff so you have a basic understanding. The $2-$3 sngs are so terrible and you can certainly build a roll rather quickly playing them w/ like $50 or so.

But as some1 earlier pointed out, it depends on what you want out of poker. If you are happy grinded micro games and never making any money at all out of poker, then just play 25c tournaments or whatever, but IMO you might as well keep playing play money since both are about as pointless as each other. If you want to learn and actually build a proper roll and make some decent money, then i'd play freerolls/micro stakes/read everything you can find about poker, and then deposit $50, follow good BRM and you have a chance of building a roll and moving up. I realise taht depositing isn't an option for some ppl, but trying to build from freeroll winings or a micro roll (while possible) is not the most profitable thing you can do if you intend to move up stakes, have money available for deposit/a method by which you can deposit, and are comfortable enough with your game that you can beat micro stakes (ie. at least half of your brain is functioning).

Freerolls/super micro games should be a method by which you gain exposure to poker and learn things about board texture, relative strength of hands, hand ranges, etc. not something one should be trying to use to build a roll, as it will take AGES just to get off the ground and have a few $$s in yoru account.

Tables dude, Omaha, Holdem even 7card can help you to get funds for Hnl at this point

Personally I wouldn't worrie much about bankroll manegment with under a couple 100
but fine someting you are ok at, like Omaha and pick your hands out, with half or all you bank!
do or die / hit&run, intill your broke or have made a profit.
After a little while hopefully you will have been successfull and have a little put back for just the reason..
to feed your tournament play, an play the FR's that you can find.

It still surprises me that people pay real money for fake chips. Is it really that hard to win them?

And whoever said don't try the 0.10 360player sit n go's is right... You CANNOT get a decent game going on its crazy. Well what do i expect it is 10 cents.

Not so hard to win them, but takes a while to hit a million, at least it did for me.

Well those type of games (where absolutely nobody cares and is willing to shove any two on anything) are extremely easy if you are patient. Plus, don't they fill up in like 1 min? So you could play like 10 at a time, and play really tight and wait for spots because you'll always get paid off since nobody cares. Don't become one of those ppl who say "oh i can't beat the donks they play any cards and get so lucky" because if you play solid vs players like that it is without a doubt the most profitable situation in which you can find yourself.

Since the thread is still going...I wanted to add another viable option for many with little or zero bankroll

There are a handful of staking sites that can get you started if you have nothing...The simple set-up:

You play the tournaments on someone elses dime, and you get to keep 50% of the winnings while shipping the other 50% to the investor. Many of these sites help out inexperiened players with smaller stakes (such as starting newbies at $1.10 MTTs or SNGs) to see if they can develop into players that can handle higher stakes.

Of course, these sites also cater to more experienced players who are getting stakes to the Sunday Million/FTOPs etc.

There are many who started with little experience and no money at the 1.10 level and now get investors interested in $10K (or more) of their action in MTTs at the $55 and $109 $215 level.

well 3$....but i would do the sit and go for 1,15 buy in on pokerstars "Double or Nothing" only 10 players 5 get payed 2$.
You can find them under Sit and Gos - single table - Mikro, with 3 $ you have 2 trys so win them..good luck

my advice would be to skip the .01/.02 and other really low stakes ring games as the play is very donk/bingo oriented....always at least half the table is either clueless or just playing every hand cause its cheap

I belive no matter how solid your game is, if you are really short on BR, or the game you are playing regularly has 4 or 5 bingo players at the table..... your gonna need alot of luck....
you would be BOTH short on BR AND playing a game that averages around 50% of players at a given table playing bingo

people always say these are the type of players you want to play against because in the long run you will come ahead.....
while this is true, without some pretty good luck, pretty quickly, your $3.00 roll isn't enough to play long enough for the long run.....

even with a bigger starting roll, playing in a game with 4 or 5 of these bingo players is a tough situation.....
unless you flop the nuts, if theres 3 or 4 others in every hand to the turn or river, along with the usual reckless betting and raising......it's very expensive to stay in a hand ......and your hand has to hold up against 3 or 4 others........just like in freerolls, the reckless bingo donks, and the clueless fish often take out alot of people before their own luck runs out

also, for the same reasons, even with a healthy BR, I wouldn't bother playing any large field donkfests like the .10 cent tournys.....


so in the end..with $3.00......

I'd suggest you play $1.10 Double or Nothing tournys (or HU S&Gs if you like HU) .... not gonna get rich playing them, but (with a little patience)they offer the best odds of +ROI
once you get the roll up some...to like $25 or so....then play whatever........just follow the 5% BR rule
