Starting to hate online poker!

I don't even know where to start, I'm really upset right now despite the fact that its 4:39 am and this has been a horrible week in poker for me, so if this sounds dumb or if I keep rambling on, please excuse me.

Well I play online poker at both Bodog and Ultimate Bet. I bascially use Ultimatebet for the freerolls and Bodog for both freerolls and cash games. Today my wife and I decided to do nothing but play poker. Well we decided to play a few freerolls, I played the Ultimatebet "Be a Pro", "Aruba Classic" and on Bodog, the "1,000 and 500 Guarantee". Well my hate grows stronger for online play everyday because of the IDIOTS that DO NOT know how to play poker and get online and play crap cards, and bet with anything and get lucky. At one time I was just under the chip leader a few minutes into the tournament and got a few bad beats and was getting short stacked. Well there was a guy who played every hand and was always betting big trying to get people out of the hands and he bet enough to put go all in and put me all in. I had A Q, he had pocket 2's, and ended up winning with freaking 2's! I got sucked out when I had J's and 10's, while this guy hit a straight. I never do this bad, ever!!! Out of the tournaments I played today I didn't even place in the top 50% because some idiot that played 2 10 agianst my pocket K's or Q's beat me with two feaking pair!! I hate how people do not take freerolls seriously. I take anything with poker seriously.

I'm thinking I'm done with freerolls, its either that or online in general. I know there are idiots that play on the cash tables as well, but I'm going to take my chances next week. I'm going to deposit $200 or something and play a bigger cash game and see what happens. I figure if somebody has $200 or more on a limit or no limit game they will take it seriously.

Sorry for ragging, but I needed to get my frustration out.

I think your main problem lies in the freerolls. That's just how the play in freerolls will be, all the time. There's nothing you can do to change that. You can't judge online poker from just freerolls, because freerolls aren't real poker.

Yes unfortunately as poker has become SO big now online and so widely available to all then you will meet several players that have no idea and get lucky calling allin with J2 off against your Queens.

Of course as we all know your going to get bad beats and how you take them is a test of your poker prowess.
Because in the long run, if you weight up your hand histories, then you will outgun these (muppets) for want of a better word, time and time again.

Just getting over the agony of going out of a tournament with a great hand to total rubbish and a player who doesn't seem to know anything takes some doing for us all.

Its mostly the freerolls, but I have had a few of these people in cash games online. I'm not judging online poker from just the freerolls. My wife was playing online today at a cash game and a guy was on there doing the same thing, playing every hand hard with nothing most of the time. At one point he was up $30, then he would be down to $5 or something and then back up.....

I think I've been playing to much the past few weeks. I've played almost everyday for the past 3 weeks straight for almost 10-15 hours at a time. I'm going to play the CardsChat freeroll tommorow (and I won't complain when I get knocked out) and then I'm going to take a week or two, maybe even three off. I know I have a home game scheduled for the 14th, so I might take time off untill then, play that game, and then take another few weeks off. I need to get everything setup for the tournament I'm hosting anyway.

It's scary to see what Tv poker and the fact that people can't equate that they don't see every hand, just big hands, ...and the effect it has on poker and of course the free roll. The wicked beast turns the beginner into an all-in bluff machine where no one with skill will ever come out on top. Snickering in the depths of money monger hell, it's probably what the poker companies execs had in mind when they created the "free" roll. Nothing is free. Now you understand how the pros felt when thousands entered, essentially their tournament, we know as the WSOP, where the best of the best come to duke it out. It makes me envision Hellmuth whining about stepping through a mine field...people going all-in with crap. Almost anyone can relate, and even if he's a cry baby, he's got a damn good point.

Probably nothing anyone could say can get you down from the steaming you'll acquire from being donked out of a donkament. It'll be ok. The donks don't always get lucky....You'll get 'em next time. Online poker's rigged anyway.

Read that new book "What no one else is saying about online poker". Pretty much explains it all and a good schooling about the online poker environment.

I must say that I couldn't have said it any better!! I understand every detail you explained. I do agree, Hellmuth is a cry baby from time to time, but he does make a good point on how people see poker on TV and are lucky go getters, because in all reality they don't take the time to study or learn the game's in's and out's.

Thank you for your post wsorbust

Most all of the freerolls I know of are No-Limit.
This is the most significant thing about them. The no-limit rule is easily as good as holding a pair of 8's, and might explain why many players, both inexperienced and experienced play so loosely early. FOr the experienced player, add that to the ROTI (return on time invested) aspect of freerolls, and well, youze gets whats youze pays for!

Incidently, I have NEVER failed to recover my entry fee in one of them.

Making a big mistake thinking someone with 200.00 online would take the game more serious and be a better player as a general rule. Bigger cash games online usually equal bigger losses. There are players with money online that treat 200.00 as nothing more then a week night out for dinner. Game does improve but not enough.

Who said there were no donkeys??

There's donkeys everywhere, and that's a good thing. You make it sound like you don't like having donkeys at your table.

How can you not like bad players at your table?

Of course a bad player or two at your table is usually a good thing, especially if you were the one to get his or hers chips or cash. But more often then not while playing online your table could have more then half of the opponents that are just terrible players, and plenty good players being forced to be preoccupied either from the comforts of their home or work. They will crack you with suck outs that are endless. There are so many hands being played so badly online, everyone wants to blame the sites for rigging the play because of the ridiculous amounts of bad beats.

The people that do well or ok playing online poker, understands the online environment, have a big bankroll that gives them a chance, and know what and what not to play to increase their odds. Oh yea, they'll have game.

A different educated strategy is needed for online play when compared to live.
