Starting a bankroll from 0

I'm trying to build my bank roll from 0 dollars in my bank. So far i'm doing great. I placed 47th/900 in a bodog freeroll and got $1.25. From there I went to pot limit .05/.10 blinds. I acquired 5 dollars from there. I moved on to no limit .05/.10 blinds. I gained 3 dollars from there. Moved on to 1 on 1 SnG 5 dollar buy in. Won that and have about 15 follars in my bank! Hopefully I can get this up to 100 in a week or so!

Bodog PokerBodog Poker is one of the few poker sites accepting US players that also offers a Sportbook and online casino games.

PPParty Poker is the premier online poker games site. The Party Poker bonus codes like CC500 offer a special $500 deposit bonus.

Great job!!!

I must warn you to use caution though!!! Bankroll management is a must!!! Stop playing the $5 S-N-Go's. They are too rich for your roll! You have $15 dollars. 3 bad beats in a row and your DONE! Technically you only want to use 5% of your roll at any given time! 5% of $15 is 0.75 cents! I know it sounds like super small peanuts, but that should be all you are risking! It's probably hard to find tourney's that small though. So try some $1 buy in ones.

Ok, good luck, but the reason for bankroll management(IMO) is that you're gonna get that killer hand and push all your bankroll(or a large chunk of it) and someones gonna get that slightly better killer hand and wipe you out. At least with bm you wont risk too much in one go.

"Technically you only want to use 5% of your roll at any given time!"

That`s common advice, but tough when you`re poor !!

Try this as a more practical alternative when the bankroll is smallish:

Use up to 20% (max) of the br as a buyin. Recalculate after any defeat. For example, with $10 available, buy in for $2 max. If you win, great - continue in the same way. If you lose and have only $8 left, buy in next time for a maximum of $1.60.

Operating this way, it takes a lot of successive defeats to bring you down to the level where you can no longer play and, if you`re that bad, maybe you should go fishing instead.

I am a fairly good player been to many sites and won many tournaments i have earned small bank rolls at all of them. Be Careful of the sites, that won't let you cash out your freeroll winnings. Because you have to be a depositing member. Its important to read all the rules and regulations at each site. Because starting with nothing and winning money is very time consuming, all that time and no pay off. Good luck.

I am a depositing member. I had said I won't put anymore money into it for a month. So I decided to start a bankroll from 0 and regain my current loss. Which isn' that much, $80.

I tried the same thing on pokerchamps about a year ago... I won 1$ in a freeroll and brought it up to $575 by basically risking my entire bankroll early on in almost every game I played and i got lucky, but my luck ran out fast and I lost it in two days playing high limit tables and torneys

I think it's a reasonably nice dinner, definitely not a bankroll though.

Even if it´s not too much, it´s a great bankroll for a 2days´ play from 0. Well done, good job. Keep it going. 30 more $ to regain

5% of bankroll......what the hell is that LMAO.....................OMFG
Soo....................

You start with a thousand bucks and your supposed to play with 50 bucks ??? Bullshit I'm telling ya...where did you guys come up with this stuff ?? You would need 2,000 dollars in your pocket to sit down at a 2-4 limit table with a 100 buy in ? What if you wanted to buy in for 200 which is more like it.You would need to have 4,000 bucks...That is stupid. The smallest game you can get live is 2-4 limit and 1-2 no limit.

I'd say that playing with a third is more like it. If you can't win at least 2 out of every 3 times you go and play you are losing over the long run no matter what anyway. If you play with 5 % and can't win 2 out of 3 minimum..... You have not got a bankroll, you have a shrinking pile of money....yes it is shrinking slowly.....LMAO

Seriously............you must be winning 66% of the time to be winning at poker.........2 out of 3 sessions, any less and your losing

So I don't think 5 % is anything more than silly.

Oh really ?...........You can come play me any night after 7 pm at the Aladdin in Las Vegas just PM me. Normaly I can be found there about 50 hours a week but I have something else going on right now. I would make an exception for you or anyone else here.

By the way what I said is the reality of live poker for a fulltime player not some fantansy with little numbers on-line.................. Of course I am not cursing on-line play it's just many on-line players are lost..........in the confusion of 5%.....................LMAO

Hey Nramjit!

Nice thread. How you doing?
I think it's a really good idea to set up (and write down) a goal what you want to achieve. From 0$ it takes lots of hours of playing freerolls to get the starting bucks. But after that you need to be patiente too.
I liked the Ferguson interview too, so I decided to try something similar (of course in small). I started to read the Harrington, and I gained some experience before.. Okay, I start a new thread...
p.s. the 5% rule is not "bullshit" IMO.

Man, that is just too funny. Can I ask you a fairly cheeky question, have you played more than 4 or 5 sessions in your entire life?
