Maybe the more advanced players wont no what im sayin here but,
when you have built a nice little bankroll and then have a bad run and are virtually back to zero! lets say the $5 or $6 mark!
What types of games do you enter now to try and savour your last few $s?
Do you go for heads up or tourneys, or low cash rooms?

You should have played lower limits. Always buy in for 5% of your bankroll or less!

Now that you're shortstacked, stick to 0.01/0.02 or 0.02/0.05 NL and play lots and lots of freerolls. Even if you only get $2, it's a big reprive for you to build your bankroll again with.

Yeah, I would probably deposit more. Or, if I was feeling like it was all futile anyway, I'd play a few $1 sngs or go to the micro ring tables. Probably blow the rest there... or start building it back up. Personally, I don't like playing with such a small BR, but there is a particular joy in turning it around. The zero to hero concept is very intriguing. I know any number of people who never deposit and who are capable of building a bankroll from scratch. And have the patience to do so. Are you one of them?

The alternative to depositing is to build up your BR in freerolls and very inexpensive tourneys. There is a 10 cent one every eve from the FT forum -- the password is easy enough to find. There are cheap sats to the Daily Dollar on FT. Look around and see what you can find.

There are several forums (besides this one) that hold freerolls for active members. If you look under the private tourney tab, you can find the names, then go look for them. Join a few and do what you need to to be eligible. Freerolls are kinda wild, so your skills and luck both have to be on.

Next time, if you want to see how the pros keep their money, try using bankroll management. (See Chris Ferguson's rules on bankroll managment.) You do have to be a decent player for this to make any sort of sense -- a losing player can only extend the times between deposits. If you are not a winner, you need a budget.

If it is just a fun hobby for you, then just try to keep your deposits at a level that is equivalent to what you would normally spend on entertainment. If you are regularly finding your poker money running out, you need a budget. Figure out what you can afford to lose. Be realistic. When I was just playing for fun and learning (i.e. mostly losing but enjoying it), I would deposit no more than $50 a month. If I ran out before the end of the month, then that was it until the next month. That was my poker budget -- which is different from a bankroll. Your budget may be greater than that or less.

I now have a bankroll, and not a budget. While nowhere near excellent, "bankroll management" is now something I can use. Somewhere along the way, I improved a bit, and have not deposited for over a year. I do not anticipate soon getting to the level where poker will be providing a regular income stream (wouldn't that be nice?)-- I am just grateful that it is no longer an income drain.

It's very important to be realistic about how you are doing.

1c/2c is free money. $5 is plenty to play with there too. If you don't mind depositing though, do it and save yourself the hassle.

I would definitely deposit if you have the money otherwise go to the .01/.02 rings and play solid virtual no-risk abc poker. Make enough $ to get the hell out of there as fast as you can.

Tom can I ask how you blew your roll? Because the whole point of BR management is so you can withstand downswings. I'm not sure what games you play. There's a 30 cent entry satellite to the daily dollar. It's a 9 player SNG top 2 get the entry(or 1T$ if you unregister) and 3rd gets 25 cents. I would play these until you build up some T$'s and also play the daily dollar. Your not really rolled for the daily dollar quite yet so build a few T$'s first. You not really rolled for the satellites for the daily dollar either but the're rather soft and it's the only real option for you. 2nl is too much a risk your AA can be cracked and busto. There's also FTP satellites to the daily dollar for 50FTPs these are a good way to build more FTPs and possible afford the 275FTP satellites to the daily doubles. Unregister if you win and that's $11 added to you roll. Good luck.

I started by depositing $25 on Party Poker, went down to $18 and then saw the Blackjack button. Having been playing Casino rules Blackjack since I was 15 I felt I could do OK, especially since when I've actually visited a casino and played, I have come out ahead, albeit marginally... played a few $1 hands and soon managed to scrape it back up to $25... "Good Recovery", I hear you cry. I got over confident. Played again the next day and blew the lot in less than half an hour. Now trying to crack the freerolls instead of depositing more.

My advice... disable ALL the casino options for your Poker site and stick to Holdem. With Blackjack you can easily win lots or lose the lot, and at $1 per deal it soon disappears. At least with Holdem you get your moneys worth and some decent gametime for your $. Not to mention there's always a Freeroll running somewhere...

I agree, don't mess with the online blackjack it's pure programming code to give the casino the edge and you WILL lose your money in the end. I remember playing BJ on Titan Poker and from $25 I got to over $400, Played more and then lost it down to $225. From then on I realized that I can lose the money just as fast as I can win it. You can't beat online blackjack. Thankfully I withdrew with $225 and started playing on PS where there is no BJ. I've heard worse storys though where people have made it up over 1000 in profit in just an hour only to dump it all back. Hiding the BJ tables if possible is a good idea.

LOL I find it amazing that people will openly admit/believe online blackjack etc on the poker sites are rigged but keep claiming the poker part isnt it...

Either way nobody knows but its unbelievable how many ppl are quick to dismiss the thought of online poker being rigged...the fact is there out to get as much cash as possible in an UNREGULATED industry and the more ppl are depositing, they make more money from "new money"...but no impossible..

If they are willing to rigg the casino games part, there is a chance they will do it to the poker part.

The only reason why I talk about the programming in Blackjack is because one of the teachers at my college that teaches video game design, did the programming for a company that has an online casino website. He said the programming in online casino games are designed to give the casino the edge. I'm not trying to say that it's rigged so you lose(even though it looks like it) I'm trying to say that the odds are definatly not in your favour and it's not the same as playing at a live casino.

I deposited $25 on ft a few months back as a total beginner and lost that in about a month!
I was down to zero and then started learning more about poker. I then won a couple of $s on a freeroll and also won the dvd freeroll for 4700 points.I was on a high then and gained a decent balance of around $60 touching $80 something at 1 point. I think the main way I lost it to be honest has been for stepping out of my zone from time to time and chasing losses when im not on my best game!
Iv learned over the last couple days how strict bankroll management is the way forward. Iv also learned how as hard as it is, you just have to switch the poker off if your not at the top of your game!
So hopefully I will turn it around.
If anybody has anything extra advice it would be appreciated.

I try and play within my comfort zone {which is micro} I grind out a hundred dollars a month average,,,, Which is not much but when you live on 900 a month it sure helps.... If I try to play higher limits, with sweat money, I don't play my regular game.

try setting a stop loss figure of 15% of your BR and sticking to it. i have trouble stopping when losing myself. if you have the 4700 FTPs you might try some FTP satellites there a good way to build confidence as the fields are softer.

And, BTW, it's not only us small stakes people who can lose their bankroll.

Only stands to reason if your bankroll starts going down you should start playing lower stakes. In theory the competion may be weaker. If i were to consistantly blow my bank roll than management of it wouldn't be the issue.

Learn to play better poker study study and play at low stakes to learn best management i can think of.

Play freerolls to get your bankroll up, then play sit and gos. If you do bad, just drop down a level. Bad bankroll management causes people to lose all their money.

Toss a couple of hundred back into your account and play one game of HU. The biggest you can afford. When you win it, buy into the biggest HU game you can afford again. When you win it, withdraw your original 2 bucks and drop down to 1/2 ring games and get back on a system of bankroll management.

And if this works, let us know because I want to pull your game history and study your methodology.

I've gone thru many a bankroll.. Seems like when i win a big tourney, i'll go broke before i have another big win. I like to play the 2$ sitngos if my stack is going downhill. Sometimes i'll let my real money marinate and enjoy some play chip action.

It sucks when your bankroll does a nosedive, but just re-deposit and practice good bank roll management. It's very hard to regain the bankroll, but if you can't deposit I would play freerolls and grinds out 2Nl.

im trying it out with my $2, i dont risk alot and i only play if theres the happy hour so i can get past level 1. its a few starting $$ that might help you.

The matrix SNGs are a very good idea as your BR starts to grow. As you would need atleast $45 for a $2.25 SNG(thats 5% I think 2% would be better so $112.50). A matraix has 5 price pools so in theory you only need 1/5 the BR you would need to play a regular SNG. So $9 needed to play a $2.25 matrix at the very least I would wait until I had atleast $22.50 to take a shot at one.

yeah stay away from the casino. it's too easy to loose ur roll when ur bored n decided a few games of blackjack then BAM u've lost 25% of ur roll.

Maybe take a break from the game for a little bit. Sometimes downswings can really mess with your mind. If you have any Full Tilt points, you might want to try to play the Daily Dollar Satellites and see if you can get into the tourney that way.

low cash games. Thats where i am at now. I had 20$ and am now down to my last few bucks. Playing in cash games and my br is slowly starting to climb again
