Is it a smart strategy to play a 100% mathematical game for SNGs?

Just playing a correct mathematical game, is that enough to win in SnGs? Example: You have 7 9 offsuit in the BB and it's at the bubble, 4 players are left and 3 get paid. You and the button are the shortstacks and the other two are huge stacks. The Button goes all in the small blind folds, if you call this and lose you are out on the bubble since you have the same stack size as the raiser. But you are getting 2.5:1 pot odds meaning unless he has exactly 1010-AA you are getting the right price. If he has Ace9 or ace 7 you are still nearly getting the right price. So should I make the correct mathematical call and risk going out in 4th, or ignore that and fold?

Purely mathematical? Yes.

Purely pot odds? No.

You have to take into account ICM and the fact that chip EV does NOT equal real money EV, and that some decisions that seem +EV in fact aren't in STTs. Get an ICM calculator and you'll see what I mean.
