Sitting Out

I see many players that show SITTING OUT and I don't quite understand how they can do this for long periods without being dropped from the game. Very aggravating I say. A table of 9 with 4 sitting out is not thrilling to me.

Are you playing freerolls? It is annoying until you get moved to a table with everybody sitting. Then you can steal every pot and build a huge stack in short time.

FT used to drop people from freerolls if they hadn't played a hand in the first twenty minutes IIRC, but I think they have stopped doing that now. If you have paid to enter a tournament then it's up to you whether you want to play or not.

I look at this as a chance to work on shorthanded play.

The dead free $$ is great too.

Also if 4 and 5 handed play makes you uncomfortable,
I suggest that it is what you need to work on most.

I've heard of stealing pots, but I don't know how and don't intend on trying. Thanks, Boston1993

I play lots of play money just for training and play many low SnG's 1-2-3 tables where individuals pay and then sign up for other games and sit back and laugh (I assume). Lost a game recently to one in the game, but not playing his cards and I got beat for 3rd place by him as he lets the other players play against each other until the last 3 players. Yes, I was upset.

That sounds quite narrow-minded. Suppose that you are on the button and the SB and BB are both sitting out. If everybody folds around to you, you just raise and they will both automatically fold and you will receive their blinds.

If you don't raise then the BB will automatically take the SB chips, so you are effectively allowing them to sit at your table and spoil your enjoyment for even longer.

Free chips - take them!

Stealing blinds/pots is a basic concept of poker. In the case of sitters in the blinds, it's stealing without consequence. With real players there, you must be careful, but you can't advance as a poker player without understanding and applying the concept of stealing at some point, so you really should rethink your intention of not trying.

Blind Stealing/Stealing Pots is ideal when you are in the cutoff or on the button (you act before the big blind, or two positions before the big blind).

When I attempt to steal, I will usually raise 2.5x BB. Lets say the blinds are 5/10. I raise to 25 chips. I am risking 25 chips with the chance to get 15 back. If both SB and BB have mediocre hands, they will assume I have the better hand and fold, and I will get a pot I probably wouldn't have won otherwise.

I hate being on a table with 4-5 sitouts. TRue, you steal a lot but it doesn't matter what cards you have. I would rather be in a game than picking up spare change. It doesn't matter if you have 2 7 offsuit or AA-you only win the blinds. If you're stuck there for an hour you lose the chance to build up a nice stack with big pots.

It depends how big the blinds are, but I agree that it's not much fun.

Play money should only be used to familiarizer yourself with the specific game, because play is quite different on the money tables as with play chips where any hand is playable to those donks .

I'm sure everyone has experienced sit ins in poker tournaments. I have from time to time, but usually one or two. Last week I was in a 6 table game and on my table of 9 were 6 sit ins. I'm told by others that it is no big deal, but it is to me. I've gotten beat a couple of times by sit ins in that like the other day, the 3 players busting heads betting each other and BAM one of them knocks me out and the sit ins rise up another place. In that tournament of over 50 players one of them finished in 12th place and they paid 9 players. I'm told there is nothing you can do about it, but I think that the clan/group they belong to should scold/penalize them. It was a Freeroll Tournament for my clan only and clan members were automatically entered and sent a message to go in and unsubscribe if they could not play. Undoubtedly they didn't read their messages and/or they just forgot or don't care about others.

I was just saying that earlier in a diffrent forum. It is aggravating when you get down to two people and you have to raise.raise.raise over and over untill there money reaches 0 and theres not even anyone there so Its a giant pain. Not even playing at that point its like a slot machine hitting the same button over and over.. Can they possibly win anything that way ??

Just be more aggressive and don't worry about it too much. They sit, they lose, and use position on the few active players at the table. I agree that it's boring, but whatever - adjust to the table conditions and do what you have to to beat them.

There are some people i know that sit out the first part of big tournaments where they dont have to play the donk going all-in all the time. Other do it for the challenge to see if they can fight back from low chips.

I have no Idea what you mean here about sit ins and players being auto registered and being sent messages to play, sounds like you think it is all rigged.

As for what you say in the OP just take their blinds and be thankful.
