Want to thank the players for responses to "Should you check early folded hand?"
For weeks on end I have had no luck whatsoever on getting off the bottom of the game. Lose, lose, lose and usually the first to go out. I played what I thought were descent hands and sometimes even super hands simply to lose to a better hand. Several of the responses were super and the one that hit me the most was that some players play under different conditions. Quad tables, music, TV, talking on the phone, emailing chatting in the game, etc. Last night I played the The Firm Fiasco NL Hold'em game of 40 players and low and behold, I finished 3rd. I was also signed up for the Cardschat Freeroll @ 8pm and The Firm Fiasco was at 6pm. Since I usually lose out early in most of my games I deided to play it and then the Cardschat game afterwards. As time passed and I appeared to be playing above my head, the time was running out and getting closer to Cardschat. I slowed down on my good play worrying about it since at my age of 73 I simply can't play two games at once. I held the lead in Firm Fiasco for quite a while, but when the Freeroll jumped on the screen, I panicked somewhat and began losing chips. Finally I decided to drop the Cardschat off the screen until I finished Fiasco as it was one of the biggest chances I've had in quite a while to place in the money. I then began to slowly pick up chips and got onto the final table and was doing quite well until the players was down to 3. I knew I had done good for me in a 40 player field and unfortunately made a bad call and went out in third place as a money winner. I felt great doing that well.
The thing tha I picked up from the blog was very helpful in that I decided to turn the sound off my TV which I usually watch off/on while playing and not to look at lost hands and try to figure out what I coulda/woulda done had I stayed in. My room was very quiet and I could focus much better and will be keeping my fingers crossed that I have at least picked up one POSITIVE thing from the blog. With an attitude like that you'll never be able to play more than one table. I think you are letting the "multiple tables" get to you. Two tables of full ring shouldn't be that big a deal at all. Especially if you are watching tv while you are playing.

This is a terrible idea. It's a very slippery slope to "Damn, I would have flopped a full house with my 72 off suit."

What you should be doing while not playing a hand is watching your opponents and trying to put them on a range of hands. Paying attention to how they play and what they go to showdown with is valuable information that will come in handy down the road.

I think you mis read his sentence...He said not look at folded hands to see what he could have done to win it. I think that part is right.

and your using your brain not looking at the shoulda/woulda/coulda hands they lead you to believe maybe it is ok to play those hands once in a while

Hey - congrats on the finish, well done!
As far as the other stuff goes, and I'm probably stating the obvious here, I think you should do what you're comfortable with. If you're cool with playing one table and just focusing on that, then do it. I would guess that like most of us, eventually you'll find that your mind begins to wander and you'll realize that you don't need to focus 100% on one table, so you'll add another. Personally, I'm not too comfortable with more than 6, but there's a ton of guys who could probably 6-table and carry on a conversation with several people at the same time. Unless you're really concerned about maximizing your hourly rate, I wouldn't worry about how many tables you play.
Glad you stopped looking at mucked cards, too. Like TPC said, keep an eye on the action on the table, eventually you'll figure out who you can make moves on regardless of what your cards are.

I do not do it often but I have found I can multi table the cash tables easier than tournaments. I seem to do better if I am focusing on the players and their actions in a tournament to be able to decide the most effective way to double one of them up and donk out.
