Should online poker be slowed down?.

By slowed down I mean, do you think it would be helpful or beneficial to give players a longer allotted period of time to make their actions?. Obviously that's one of the main differences between live and online poker, but would say, ten more seconds, etc. be that much of an inconvenience to those that enjoy the speed of the online game?.

This question comes based on my inability to quickly, and accurately, calculate the required odds, etc. when playing online. I am obviously working on my poker math, and hopefully some time in the near future, the speed of online poker will no longer be a problem so to speak, but I'm also asking this question theoretically. I was thinking along the lines that adding some more time would make the online experience a little more like a live game. Allowing players that have the skills and knowledge to go through their routine and put together the best decision that they can.

Depends where you play. Stars gives you plenty of time, but if you play on an ipoker skin for example, then you absolutely do not have anywhere near enough time to make a proper decision while playing several tables.

So they can give players more time to stall? No, I think it's fine how it is. I also only play turbo games online, so that the blinds go up faster... it would make things more difficult if they were to slow down the player's time to act.

No way. You'll find that you have plenty of time to act, and the game seems to go far too slowly with the time that is given. There is no reason to add more time.

I think they should have a variety of speeds, including "slow" tables for those getting accustomed to online poker and its relative quickness. And if you think online poker goes too slowly, you are either too impatient to be good at poker or sitting at a table with someone with screwed up internet (or someone who's an asshole and tries to waste people's time).

I like full tilt where you can use some extra time when facing a difficult decision. At Mansion there is a signal when your time is almost up and that's so annoying, every room should have the ft-option.
I like to go into the tank before making the wrong decision.

Most people don't use all the allotted time as it is so I am not sure it's needed. I encourage you to use all the time allotted when you need it though. Ignore the people who try to rush you, take your time and play your game. Clock management is part of the game and there is no reason for other players to whine or complain if someone chooses to use all of the allotted time.

I agree, I also only play turbo games so the blinds and the pace of the game is faster..

Use your time bank wisely.

Hmmmm I dont think slowing them down is too good for the companies as said above, plus the games are already quite slow, especially if you arnt on a "Fast" table.

Like im typing this while 4 tabling 25nl, how many tables are you playing that you think there is not enough time to calculate your descisions? Reduse the number of tables if you cannot keep up with what you are comfortable with.

I hate getting in a tournament where two or more people are taking a long time to make their decisions each hand. The fewer hands I see the fewer decisions I can make, thereby decreasing any skill-advantage I might have. Any table with several slow players is at a disadvantage, because their decision-to-blinds ratio is worse. Also, with fewer hands can mean that fewer people will be knocked out, so the infusion of new chips to the table (due to replacement players coming in) will be less.

In ring games, PokerStars has fast and slow tables. Again, the fewer hands I get to see in an hour, the fewer decisions I get to make in that timespan. I join both fast and normal tables, but I'd guess that I make more per hour (but not per hand) at the fast tables as compared to the normal tables.

I wouldn't be opposed to there being "slow" tables. I just wouldn't play them, and I'd expect the site to increase the rake to make up for it.

i know fulltilt and players only poker have an "extra time" button where you can request more time...for some reason i thought all sites were like this ^^;;

online you have the luxury of being able to see exactly what everyones stack size is and your cards are face up to you during the whole hand. That should make the whole math thing go pretty quickly.

Yeah, I've started to come to that realization the more I work on and progress in my poker math skills. Like I said in my initial post, it has to be the worst, and slowest, aspect of my game.

well this question could go either way really... i mean somtimes it would be nice to have a little more time but most likely i know wut i am gonna do and dont need it so i dont know... all depends really tough question

Actually, at PKR, where I play most often, you have to "look" at your hole cards, otherwise they are face down. But it's not like that's going to matter much... LOL. I just felt like pointing the difference out.

Definitely not. That's one of the major difference that separate Live from Online. A lot of people profit from the fact that its faster because it means more hands/hour. Also, it would never happen because it will substantially decrease their rake amount.

no....if your worried about calculating odds download a calculator. I mean 10 more seconds wouldnt really matter either way.

You will find that on almost every poker site they have time banks that you can add extra time to your hands, but its a limited time.
Its bad enough sitting at at table first hand with sit outs as you have to wait the banked time for each person.
Its not usually a very hard decision, its only two cards that only the community cards change, but why give extra time , its roughly the time allocated when and if you play at a casino.
SO no i dont think they should add extra time or slow the tourneys down any more than what they are... sorry

I think they give the perfect amount of time, the only thing that concerns me is the disconnection time... I've been disconnected for like 30 seconds before and my hand is automatically folded which i dont think is fair when i have a bunch of money in the pot already, anyone else agree that they should finda better solution for the disconnections?

i think they give too much time already. i mostly play at tilt and i don't understand why it takes people so long to play a hand. but know that i have read your post i can see why some people are trying to take their time as you are but i don't get it. i guess it's just me. i play fast. usually i know what i am going to do well before it gets to my turn. oh, maybe thats my problem to. lol. maybe i should take more time. no i can't. stalling on purpose is so aggravating. and maybe they do it just to make me go on tilt. i have in the past, but now i just wait like everyone else has to. that sucks.

sometimes i cant stand the timer .... especially in torneys wher ppl utilize it to gain position....there is nothing worse to me than the guy who waits till his timer has 2 secs left every time...

No i think with the addition of the time banks on the major sites u have plenty of time to make ur decisions

one of the reasons of playing online its because the game is faster. if you want more time you can use ur time bank.

and online you see all the time ur cards and all the players stack, so is much easier to calculate.

i say no fore the simple reason people use that time not for making a play but to slide though the tourney , shorter time means the tourney will get to the good money part a lot faster

I agree that it depends on where you play. I would also say that it would not hurt for the poker sites to allow various speed games for all player levels. I personally don't mind the speed, but maybe others do. So why not give them options. Wouldn't hurt.

Think about it this way: would you be willing to pay higher rake to play on a slower table?

Time is money, and no sane operator is going to slow their games down without expecting compensation.

If the answer to the above question is no, then there really isn't anything much else to discuss here.

I don't favor it slowing down, why not play in the play money games to speed up your math skills, not necessarily your poker skills, lol.

I agree with feitr. It depends on where you play. At pokerstars, if you get two or three thinkers that wait the whole time limit to bet, it gets old having to wait so long just to play one hand. We have all been at one of those tables at one time or another. You can go to the bathroom and come back and it still isn't your turn to bet. LOL.

I don't think you should slow the game down...however "you" will make better decisions by slowing down and thinking about what your doing.

I am not opposed to the idea of "slow tables".

But I don't think you will see many playing there.

I prefer high speed 6max rings myself. Even better when they are shorthanded. I take as long as I want when I really need to think.
