My reply was for 22 vs 98s. I ran it again and 22 is a better hand against top hand ranges (10% & 5%).

I personally would PREFER the 89 su. Just my preference, Jilly is right that 22 is technically better pf.

indeed, a suited connecter will usually beat a low pair.
i think if they are just connected cards, the pair is still ahead.
can someone please back me up on that? im pretty sure just not completly. i wonder it connected cards in a race against a low pair are better than suited cards against a low pair.

Of course 22 is ahead and will win vs. 98 over the long run but I don't know if I really prefer one over the other.

Even without the odds, which clearly say 98s is stronger, I would say 98s because its so much easier to play post-flop.

I like pocket 2's way more than I should. I like pocket anythings way more than I should, really. I hardly ever get anything with 89s, but maybe that's because I rarely even play that hand preflop. Maybe I should . . .

But I used PokerOdds 2.51 by Tim Babb, and it confirms JC`s numbers to within a tenth of a percentage point.

So no, pocket underpair is a (slight) dog.

To purposely hijack this thread; what is going on here exactly? I'm pretty dumb, just wondering why the equity doesn't add up to 100% or what that calculation in pokerstove is doing....

Pretty sure he's just posting how the range fairs against each specific hand. Not if all 3 are in same hand. Notice it says Hand 0:, Hand 1:, and Hand 1 again.

89S 53.27%
22 46.42%

and if its 89s
22with one spade then

89S 53.28%
22 46.71%

dont understand how second one works but preflop then 89s is definitely favourate odds wise
