Serious Question

I don't want this to sound like I am against poker, but just consider it.
It is well-know that poker has destroyed many people's lives, while other people might be rich, but have not gained scientific or mathematical, (above the simplistic), knowledge. My question is:
If you could stop all forms of poker from ever being created and played, would you?

Nope. Poker is certainly not the only thing that has ever destroyed lives. Not even close. If we ban all the things that people abuse and use to ruin theirs or other people's lives, we'll have nothing left to do!

If you think they're dumb, then don't bother to respond. He has the right to post that type of question if he wants to. Try to be more respectful of your fellow CC members.

I'm not trying to flame you at all but with that being said, this is a ridiculous question.. Poker has destroyed peoples lives for one reason and one reason only, and that is because they have no self control.. A person should never play above their limits and as the saying goes be able to know when to say when.. It all comes down to personal responsibility.. If you aren't able to back away from the table when you are in danger of losing your rent money then I have no sympathy for you.. I'll take your money and pay my bills with it, simple as that..

Poker doesn't destroy lives, gambling problems destroys lives.

And deciding what's best for other people is the source of more ills in the world than anything. Poker certainly included.

No, I am not a robot, I am human and free-will is important to humanity’s relevance. Without free-will our destiny would be pre-determined, we would be nothing more than robots performing programmed tasks.

Free-will is the essence, the creative spark that makes humanity unique and interesting rather than boring.

Take a look at the old Taleban regime that was in Afghanistan they had some very strict rules about social morality. It wasn’t a very nice place; the war America is currently fighting is against that extremist view.

When people are free to be responsible and accountable for their own actions, society often excels, when people are held to strict extreme ideology’s terrible consequences are always the result.

This of course is a shortened general philosophical answer, there are reasons to look for balance between extremes but that is where personal accountability and responsibility makes a difference. A government banning creates criminals and corruption; government acceptance may also create unfair monopolies (Indian Casinos).

Individuals who are irresponsible have to feel the accountability; there are winners and losers in all facets of life. Some people are good at running a business some are not they fail at a huge rate all the time. Are their lives and families any less affected when they lose their business due to miss-management as an individual who loses everything being irresponsible at a poker table?

We all are human and subject to free-will, choose wisely, your actions are your own responsibility. You will be held accountable by those whose lives are dependant upon your action or inaction and the consequences thereof.

IMHO

Well, there was ol Bob.

To answer the question, no. Individual freedom involves consequences but it is well worth it.

I think its a good question. Poker has ruined my life lol....No not really, it has actually just taken up A LOT of my time, and I do mean A LOT. It has also given me headace's from time to time, as well as sorrow. I have cursed at my computer screen many of times, and even punched my fist on occasion. Then agian, I have jumped in rejoice, and cryed tears of joy and ran through the streets screaming happy things.

Its a love hate relationship!

You know something, I hate it when people say things like "Poker has ruined my life" or "Alcohol has ruined my life" or anything of the sort. The simple truth of it is, people ruin thier own lives. Then when thier life is ruined they try to find something to blame.

Simple truth of the matter is, if you screw up your own life, you are the only one to blame. If you blow your life savings and lose you job because you are playing to much poker it isn't pokers fault, poker didn't force you to play. You made a decision to play poker and the consequences of that decision should be yours alone.

In addition, people who naturally have addictive personalities should know before they sign up for things like online poker the risks they are taking. You usually know this sort of thing about yourself. If you allow yourself to get involved in these sorts of things, you should be aware of the potential ramifications. Done with my soapbox preaching for the moment, you guys have at it.

Guns don't kill people, but bullets do.
It is the choices we make which sculpts our lives. Hope floats, so let it ride.

Not to get off topic or anything...

Using your exact words, replace the word 'poker' with the word 'religion'.........
