Self-Exclusion
I want to pose a question to all of you. I was wondering if you guys utilize the self-exclusion function on Full Tilt Poker (and maybe on other sites?), or do you guys know when it is time to break, and are able to stop without using the function?
Here is my situation: I just placed 2nd in a 400 person $5 tournament on Full Tilt Poker for $316. This cash increased my bankroll drastically. I then could not be more proud of myself, thinking i was almost invincable. Today I lost a few tournaments, believing I was making the right plays, but when I looked back on them, i decided it would be best to take a break for a bit. I usually use the 24 Hour ban, like in this case, but they also offer 3, 7, 14, 30, 60, 90, and 180 day bans. So do you guys utilize the function, and why do you guys use it? |

I just went threw the same situation winning a $4 180person SNG on PokerStars for $216 which nearly doubled the BR. I then rewarded myself with a couple shots at the $3+R satellites into the sunday warm up and sunday mil. After losing $30 (10 buy-ins between the 2 tourneys) I put myself on a 48 hour ban from PS. I didn't have to use the fuction you are talking about. But I can see where it is helpful to some, and used in certin situations is probley the right thing to do.
Being able to control your mindset heading into and threwout a poker tournament is a HUGE part of your game. If you find your limit of winning or losing a certin amount affects your play, take a break. Write down what happend in your poker book. How long you take off and adjust your gameplay accordingly. Good luck and have fun. |

At the moment, I can think of no compelling reason why I would want to abstain from poker for a while. If at some stage in the future a compelling reason did materialise, then I'd not need the poker room software to keep me out.

It's tough to say about self-exclusion, no one really likes to be away from poker they just like to be away from the bad beats etc. So maybe it would be better for yourself to just take control without the self-exclusion and prevent yourself from gambling for a bit. It would probably make you feel better rather then "punishing" yourself

I would never self-exclude myself. However I would also never play for more than I am willing to lose without getting angry lol.
If I ever did feel I was playing out of my range I would take a break - or more likely step down in limits. But I would never self-exclude because there are always CC events I want to play in every week. |

The only time i wouldnt play is when i feel
1. In the wrong mood - it may have noting even to do with poker, wrong frame of mind can cause a wrong decision. 2. Tired 3. When trying to regain lost $$ and lost more in doing it 4. Playing for playings sake - if your playing because you dont know what else to do, why wasnt playing at the top of the list? - because you are not really bothered and so it equals point 1. *congrats on the placing and increasing the bankroll - be careful of moving up too soon though ![]() GL |

It doesn't take much control to make a few clicks. Tilt is not an easy thing to control, since it's common among players.

I agree with almost all of you that poker is about self-control, but why not use the function so that I never can even have the temptation?
When I begin to go to casinos I guess I must be able to learn that self-control because there isn't going to be anything that pops up and says I have banned myself for 48 hours. Do you guys feel it is easier to stop yourself when playing live rather than online? |

Never considered using the self exclusion option but I frequently use the self inclusion option. hehe Seriously though when I hit a cold streak online I just go to 1 of the card rooms in Tampa. Taking a shower, the 40 minute drive, and playing at a live game gives me time to regroup and get back on track to deal with the endless donkplay online.

we should also have an auto-exclusion option as well. If you post an "it's rigged" thread or a "werz da paswurd" thread, you activate auto-exclusion for 5346265276725436 days.
