Screen Name Influence I was wondering what if any influence your opposing players screen name has on you. The reason I am bringing this up is on cake you are allowed to change your screen name once a week. I can tell the regulars on there just by the way they play and a lot of them do not bother to change their name. I do. I have noticed players will size you up by your screen name and you could actually use this to your advantage. For example when I was using Doc Holliday as a name every one treated me pretty respectfully. And A lot of players tried to engage me in friendly conversation. When I used RTODTO as a screen name I got a few insults like nerd boy and move out of momma's house type stuff. So obviously it has some affect on what these players perceive you as. I think I will run a little experiment and try to play the part of my screen name in the chat box. Just to see where it leads. Now my screen name is luckyfk that has to be unnerving to some players I imagine? When they get into a pot with me they are probably subconsciously thinking omg how is this fish going to suck out on me. Also I think I tend to treat women players differently Don't get me wrong their are a lot of women players that are really really good, I just think I tend to play differently with them(which is obviously a huge flaw in my game and a big mistake) Some screen names that amuse me are DonkSlayer--- He is a donk Futurepro-----Not in this lifetime Diesuckerdie-----serious anger problems Just Fold-------Don't call, Don't call, please please don't call Anyone with a pros name-----I will try my best to embarrass whoevers name I stole Hustler----Gets money from his girlfriend to lose online crackhead---watch out for this one Cowboy---Never seen a horse living in la la land Any one with an actors name---Geez I wish I were famous

I don't put any stock into someone's username, and neither should you. Observe, take notes, and base your reaction to players that way (and of course if you have stats on them). Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the reason you would change your username on Cake is to keep people with tracking software/HUDs from acquiring too much data on you and how you play.

With Jucie here, you really shouldn't take anything out of someone's screen name, it's not going to give you any real advantage. It's like trying to figure out a basketball player's moves based on their jersey number.(ooooh he's number 23, he must be JUST as good as Jordan!!!!) At the very most, you might get their age or the fact that they know poker terms

re: Screen Name Influence poker also you have to take into consideration that some players names might describe the exact opposite of the kind of player they are, eg the first on your list DonkSlayer--- He is a donk. On the other hand he could be an expert player and maybe the name is justified. Its dangerous making judgements on peoples play just on their names.

Never really thought about screen names having an influence on me, or the other way around, that my screen name could have an influence on someone playing against me. But it does sound interesting to give it a try to your experiment, our minds can play tricks on us without we noticing it.

But alas I still choose usernames which can be offensive because on the off 1% chance I get a rise out of someone. |

On bovada, there is this guy who call himself "3". man, this gets to me.... But, screen names can give you some idea of who the player is in RL, as well as their attitude while signing up. (Unless SN can be changed at the site, which most cant afaik) So"kidpokerkills" may have actually gotten better in the meantime, and regret the sn by now. And "Fletchdad" may reflect a middle aged guy with kids, but he may, in the meantime, no longer be just a recreational player......

Whenever you come across someone called "grafkarow" on any site label him as utter spewtard aggrodonk, it's well deserved. To the OP: I don't think too much about opponents names, if it's funny I'll catch a screeny for the "funny username" thread.

Sometimes a screen name actually matches a certain "personality" type, at least it seems that way to me. Use "all" the information you can discern on an opponent (know the enemy). Consider also the relationship to the poker types like maniac, rock, shark, mouse, call center, elephant, etc. Sometimes, there seems to be a degree of maturation (or lack thereof) involved in selection of their screen name. Having stated the above, I certainly wouldn't give too much credence to any screen name until they actually validate it by their poker play. BTW, my "bullish6" & bullish06 screen names were a result of a combination of two of my former careers (Stockbroker - bullish on the stock market and military officer - 06). Good post! GL on the felt, Wally
