Scotty Nguyen claims online poker players rely on luck and 'don't play right' Did anyone else read these comments by Scotty Nguyen? I respect the guy - and like him a lot (especially those drunk clips on YouTube!) but I think he's talking nonsense here. So many pros seem to want to slag off online players thesedays. Perhaps it's their own insecurities coming through!?

Guessing online players are becoming more elite players than the old skool live players. Online players play more hands, have more tools to asses thier play, and can watch videos, coaching etc. Were zooooooming by in the poker world!!

re: Scotty Nguyen claims online poker players rely on luck and 'don't play right' Honestly Scotty's views arent too different from most of the old school players, but there is no doubt that young guns are beginning to dominate the field and do it very early. Just look at the last two ME winners, very young, this years final table is extremely young, I believe the oldest man left when they were down to the final 27 or so was in his 40s. Its more than luck, its just a different skill set to play online, but a lot of it can be applied to live play. Imo Live = Online + Tells. If you can combine good online play with good reads on players (while maintaining your own posture and making them misread you) then you'll go far.

i think the live game is more fluid you have to real skill in watching for correct reads online you get to cheat with huds telling you your opponents weaknesses and it makes it more mechanical if you tried playing this way in a live game you wouldnt get far u have to adjust your game big style to exell

re: Scotty Nguyen claims online poker players rely on luck and 'don't play right' hehe. typical old school live player with inferiority complex against online players. just because he can't crush online players like tom dwan, elky, patrik antonius, raszi, omgclayaiken, etc, online players are luckers? i never saw his punk ass in high stakes poker(live or online). i wonder why. truly skilled live players such as phil ivey, daniel negreanu, erick lindgren, david benyamine, chau giang, and many more players who started out live don't make any excuses and they do very well online and live. Doyle Brunson and Chip Reese(RIP) has done well against online players in high stakes poker. Just as my father says, The Loser always has an excuse for their failure. This cheesy prick needs to learn that the game has changed compared to 1998 and he needs to keep up with the times. It's year 2010. This isn't about live vs online players or old school vs new school. its about good players vs bad players. Last edited by PoKeRFoRNiA : 8th November 2010 at 2:57 AM.

I'm new still to online and live poker but I struggle far more online than live thats for sure.. For one, online all you get is cocky idiots who wouldn't say boo to a goose and of course the all-ins every hand you're involved in. Hardly ever do you see it in live and I believe there is more skill and more respect for players in the live circuit. Besides which, online people ain't ashamed calling/rasing and chasing with pot odds if they hit it. Live, people seem to have a better concept of how poker is played maybe it's just because of the micro poor limits I play in. I also believe if I was born into the older generation of poker and "how" it is supposed to be played, I'd of done better. Poker has just taken on such a different game to what it was when the likes of Tom Dwan came on the scene the game just changed to crazy shit. Don't get me wrong, I admire what Tom has achieved and like him as a player I just think there are far to many players trying to play like he does and fail big time time and time again but people will still try playing with 10,2 os firing bluffs and all sorts and thats where its gone to pot really. There are so many of them around that the luck factor in online poker is so much more than live.

well most people do rely on luck. however its not just online people. where ever poker is being played no matter who is playing it for what ever stakes luck will always be involved. but scotty believes thats all we do us online folk. play just to get luck and he absolutly wrong. we play so many more hands and understand so much more then the old school offline players. its not that were shoving with a10 to get lucky its cause weve played so many hands that we know how to play the hands when to play them. we obviosuly dont want a call with a10 most of the time but when we shove its one of two things. wither we know we have you beat and want a call or we know that your weak and gunna fold. 95 percent of the time. however the 5 percent that is showed on tv for the whole world to see makes us look like idiots. when a10 is called by ak and we river the 10. thats why he said what he said. he has no idea what online poker realy is

The thing is, the average viewer doesn't understand this, they think these online pros just bluff every hand for the sake of it and go online trying to do the same. If these guys annoy you, next time you see one at a table call me and I'll gladly take your seat. |
