the rules of poker!!

ok!

i have had two arguments in 3 days about flush's!!

playing texas hold em!
say the board is:
As, 6s, 8s, Jh, 4d

one person has Ks, 7s

another: Js, 5s

yeah! both have ace high flush's one with a king and one with a jack!!

ok, so the king high wins!

BUT!!!!
2 people have told me "Thats a split pot!! that's not the rules we play, it all depends what rules you play!! where I play thats a split pot!!"

I tell them there is no such rule! i bet you £100 you cant find me a book in a month that says thats the rules, I'm right etc!!

does anyone know of a rule where in said situation that would be a split pot!!

does that make sense or am i going mad???

Your answer is correct ie, AK876 beats AJ865 but lots of home games have home rules - be sure to discuss them BEFORE you start playing.Even better, make them write them down - that way, you are all singin from the same song book.

That's a common "house rule" as deuce stated. but, A K flush beats an A J flush. Its best 5 cards.

when is doubt, just remember BEST 5 CARDS for a poker hand and whoever's got the higher hand wins

The winner is the one with the 5 best cards made from all the cards dealt - so the King hand would win. If the 5 best cards were on the table, then it would be a split pot.

I agree, thats a pile of ..........., Poker is poker and you have to make the best ( 3, 5 or 7 ) card hand with the cards at your disposal. I wouldn't play with whoever told you that, they should really be playing Old Maid or something simpler.
