Its kin of an un-spoken rule in poker to check it down when the short-stack is all in to try and eliminate him/her. But really they shouldnt be telling each other, as i said its an un spoken rule to check it down and eliminate a player especially when close to the bubble. I certainly wouldnt be happy if i was at a table and 2 ppl openly discuss checking it down to eliminate me. Not fair play imo

I was playing at PokerStars today, 3 of us left, shortest stack went All in, I called with K 6s, and the 3rd guy called as well. I've hit a K on the flop but continued to check. We checked around all the flop, turn and river only to find out that the 3rd guy has hit a straight on the turn but still checked!
Once we were HU I wrote him nice check and he replied u2... Checking down could be strategy, talking about it before or while it happens is not fair - I too wonder what will happen in a real casino if the players actually talk the other players to call for eliminating the short stacked player who went all in |

NOT allowed....it's collusion.....it is usually something that people who know how to play do....they check it down UNLESS one of them have a monster.
Yes they want to get the guy out...BUT, they also want to win, so on occasion you'll see a pro actually make a bet, but it doesn't usually happen unless he has the nuts. |

Just curious since its not allowed is their a penalty for collusion? What would you do if you had money in it and someone was doing this but it was not online or in a casino? |

This is something that really, really depends on the house rules. In any game run under TDA rules (Rules) this violates Rule 33 (it'd be classified as soft play / collusion thereto) and the players responsible would be penalised.
Probelm is, the TDA rules aren't universal. So in cases like this you really need to refer to the floor person / tournament director / equivalent and ask for their rule. Quote:
The problem is that the penalty won't help you in this hand - if one is given, it'll take effect after the hand is over. So if you get knocked out by one of the colluding players, they may get a sit-out penalty starting on the next hand but you'll still be out of the tournament. The penalty will most likely be getting sat out for a period of time, BTW. Exactly the same thing that you see on TV at the WSOP when a player gets a penalty for swearing (like in the infamous Matusow / Sheiky incident at the 2005 Main Event). It's also possible they could just get a verbal warning, if it's their first offence or it wasn't deemed a major infraction or something. |
