| Is a Royal Like A Hole-In-One? My first Royal Flush. It was in a $2 NLHE Freezeout tourney on Dream Poker. Kinda lame that they just call it a straight flush. (I still missed cashing by 4 spots, though.) I'm wondering if a royal flush is as rare as a hole-in-one in golf. Any guesses or research sources? Gord? Gordo? Bueller? | Nice hand - I've had 4 royals in Stud/8 in 2 years playing online...I've never had a hole-in-one, however. Strangely enough, I've had 2 double eagles (although only 1 is official - 2nd was in a scramble...meh!) in my life...go figure. |

| Players in the US Open played 10,116 holes of golf. Times this by 2, the chances of a PROFESSIONAL player getting a Hole in one are 20,232/1. Of course the odds are much lower - it's probably not physically possible to reach the hole on a par 5 course. NB, Peter Hedbloom got a hole in one on the 3rd day. I wonder just how many hands of poker we play together each year as a site (amongst regular posters). We seem to have a Royal Flush story every 3 weeks or so, which surely is much too often? Rigged? |

| I actually just got my very first royal flush today... I did the print screen thing but forgot about it and (I think I) lost it when I copy and pasted something else, because I tried to paste into paint and got nothin'. I didn't think to save the hand history either, so I figured it was worthless to make a topic about it without proof. Was exciting though, and I won a big pot with it! EDIT: Oh, and to the person who said "Odds for a Royal Flush are 649,739 to 1"... excuse me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the odds of making it with 5 cards? These would be the odds to flop it, but with the full 7 cards your chances are somewhat better. |

| There are a few things to consider. How many hands of poker do you play in a week? How many par 3's holes do you play in a week? Next, do you have to be a decent card player to hit a Royal or does being a professional player change the odds of you getting a Royal? Ask the same thing about golf. If you can hardly get the ball of the tee you can't expect to get a hole in one, or have the same odds as Tiger Woods. The better golfer you are, the odds of getting a hole in one increase due to your knowledge of your distance and your accuracy. Now, with me being a half decent golfer (about a 12 handicap) we could test the theory. Someone could sit on the tee box of a par 3 with a laptop and wireless connection and everytime a new hand is dealt, I hit another ball. I would venture to guess I will get a hole in one before a royal flush is dealt. |
